Term 1 Week 8 2023

Principals Report

Bingo Night

P&C put on a wonderful community minded fundraiser last Friday night. I had the honour of being the official bingo caller for the evening. We had a blast "dabbing" the night away. Once again thank you to Rebecca for coordinating the dinner, Jen for helping with prizes and the rest of the P&C team who helped out behind the scenes to make the night a big success.

NAPLAN Writing and Practice Test

NAPLAN began this week with both, the practice test on Tuesday and the writing test on Wednesday. All other NAPLAN tests will be held over Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday next week. The Year 3 and Year 5 students did an amazing job of their writing tests. A big thank you to Mrs Jones for organising this year's assessments. Once the results have come in we will send them home to parents.

Visible Learning Numeracy Assessments

Over Week 7 and Week 8 we completed this terms Numeracy Assessment. It is built around the same style of assessment (1-to-1 interviews) as last year but based on the New Mathematics syllabus. This means that much of the content has changed. Through this transition I have noticed a few patterns that I will comment on now. For students in the older grades, it is more than likely their achievement score will be lower. This is something I noticed when assessing the students, as much of the numeracy language and the strategies we are looking for have changed. This will take some adjusting. Also, staff were assessing students with the new assessment from Week 2 up to Week 5. It took a long time to go back over and make sure all students had been assessed from the beginning again. We then begun our Term 1 assessing in Week 7 again. This means that for some students they have only had a short turn around between assessments. So progress scores could be impacted by this. It would normally be a 10 week gap between assessments so Term 2 data sheets will be a better indicator for progress scores moving forwards.

AGM Meeting Moved Forward a Week

The March P&C Meeting has been moved forward a week and will now be held on the 23rd March at 7pm in the school staff room. This meeting will also have a component for the AGM (Annual General Meeting). This is where we allocate/nominate P&C roles for the next 12 months. As discussed previously, we have a number of parents in executive roles that have their youngest child in Year 6 and will not be continuing in the P&C for another year. So there is lots of opportunities for new parents or veterans (that have been standing on the sidelines up until now) to get involved and help out our beautiful school.

Spotlight on CAPA with Mrs Sherrott

CAPA has been interesting and fun this term. We are learning about Portraits in Visual Arts and Movement and Mime In Drama.

The students have all drawn amazing portraits of themselves in both realistic and abstract ways. Our abstract art was inspired by Picasso.

In drama we have learnt about the features of drama. The students have had many opportunities to showcase their talent through small group and individual presentations.
