Welcome back

I hope our students and their families had a wonderful holiday break and managed to enjoy the much missed sunshine. We have had a great start to what will be another busy term.

A huge thank you to the White, Steel and Fuller families who took care of the farmyard over the holiday break and allowed our staff to be able to get away.

Staffing Update

Mrs Melissa Boyan and Miss Jayne Rainer will begin their maternity leave next week.

Miss Megan Chant will be taking the Beetles for the remainder of the year and Mrs Fletcher will be relieving Assistant Principal for Miss Rainer.

Industrial Action - Wednesday 4 May, 2022

The department has been negotiating with the NSW Teachers Federation since October last year to reach an agreement on the new Teachers Award. The NSW Teachers Federation has directed its membership to take industrial action in the form of a 24-hour strike on Wednesday 4 May 2022.

As a result of the strike, our school may only be providing minimal student supervision on this date. Minimal supervision means onsite teaching and learning continues, however temporary class structures and a modified timetable will be required to meet safety and supervision requirements. Further communication is expected by the department on Monday morning and I will share this with you as I receive it.

We understand the inconvenience, but would greatly appreciate your support.

Panania North P&C AGM

Last month we held our Annual General Meeting for our P&C. I would like to take this opportunity to say a huge thank you on behalf of our school community to our P&C executive for their commitment, passion and hard work in supporting our students, staff, parents and wider community.

Our P&C are an essential and vital team; their value to our school community extends much further than fundraising for resources for our students.  I would like to thank our all our P&C members who have given their voice in consultative decision making, provided feedback, represented our community through the staffing merit selection process, school self–evaluation processes, broad financial management decisions and decisions relating to improvements and school policy.

I would like to congratulate the following parents on their re-election

President - Louise Anthony

Vice President - Daphne Salabogi

Vice President - Joanne Ghookasian

Treasurer: Chada Zoabi

Secretary: Hayet Bazzi

NAPLAN Tuesday 10 May - Friday 14 May (Week 3)

In May 2022 the National Assessment Program – Literacy and Numeracy (NAPLAN) will be completed by students in Years 3 and 5. NAPLAN has the support of all State and Territory Education Ministers and will assess the literacy and numeracy skills of students across Australian schools.

To assist, we are asking all students to please bring in a working pair of corded headphones to be used during the tests. Bluetooth headphones cannot be used for this test.

The results of the tests will provide important information to our school about what each student can do, and will be used to support teaching and learning programs. Parents will receive a report indicating their child’s level of achievement. Each student’s level of achievement will be reported against the national minimum standard.

Students will sit exams in writing, reading comprehension, language conventions and mathematics. All tests in Year 5 will be held online. Year 3 will complete online tests with the exemption of a hand written writing exam.

The NAPLAN tests for Years 3 and 5 will be conducted from Tuesday 10th - Friday 20th May 2022.

‘Catch-up’ tests will be scheduled for students who missed a test or were absent on a test day.

If your child is unwell, please do not send them to school to undertake a NAPLAN test. Please contact the office and advise of your child’s absence. They will be caught up, if possible, on the allocated catch up day.

Additional information about NAPLAN can be found at http://www.nap.edu.au/naplan/parent-carer-support
