From the Principal

#GardenOfLove

A HUGE THANKS goes to all our community members who are getting behind our beloved Ms Pauline's Garden, in one way or another: Mrs Felicity Bowman, who has the vision and drive, spending countless hours leading this project of love and guiding our students - the families and school staff who have donated items - the Dad with the chainsaw, who came after school one day to further cut stumps into 'stepping stones' - this garden is shaping up to be absolutely amazing, keeping true to Ms Pauline's vision and organic philosophy. Her essence is definitely here!

Maria Lambos - Principal

2021 Year 5 Opportunity Class

LAST WEEK - Year 4 Students, Parents and Carers

The 2021 Year 5 Opportunity Class placement process was put on hold in April 2020, due to the COVID-19 situation.

The High Performing Students Team have revised and simplified the timeline for the OC placement process, to ensure that students and families can have certainty about their placement as soon as possible.

The changes include:

  • A new date for online applications. Parents must apply between 9 June 2020 and 26 June 2020. Late applications cannot be accepted.
  • A new test date - Wednesday 16 September 2020.

To ensure fair and consistent assessment of students across New South Wales, students will be offered places based only on their test results this year – there will be no school assessment scores.

There will also be no opportunity for appeals given the tight timeframes.

For further detailed information and continued updates regarding this process, visit - https://education.nsw.gov.au/public-schools/selective-high-schools-and-opportunity-classes/year-5

WHAT'S BEEN HAPPENING THIS WEEK...

4 Marigold helped Mrs Bowman do some gardening! ?

Spotlight on...

1/2 CACTACEAE!!!

WOW what a term! What a triumphant return to 1/2Cactaceae this has been! Despite the chaos, 1/2C has been working hard on reading, writing and numeracy while settling back into routines, and especially spending more time with our friends!

This week we've written information reports about doctors and farms, investigated how Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders connect to the land in Geography, shaken our groove things in Footsteps and created beautiful cactus art with shredded paper.

Soundwaves: "I love Soundwaves because we learn our sounds and get to learn." - Ivy W

Writing: "Information reports are great because it gives you lots of information about different things." - Vivienne B-N

Reading groups: "Reading is good for you to learn because when you get older you will have to read a LOT so it's good to learn when you're young to read." - Indianna-Belle D

Footsteps: "What I like about Footsteps is that we get lots of exercise and energy and Footsteps is really good and it helps your muscles grow." - Sierra R

Cactus art: "I like it at the end when you get to cut out the cactus and you get to feel what the paper feels like and you get to cut out your own cactus, you could cut one out that's bigger than the world if you wanted." - Joshua McG
