Newsletter - Term 4, Week 3

Message from the Principal

Dear Bidwill PS Community,

Welcome back

Welcome back for our final term of 2020, we have had a positive start to term 4. Well done to all our students and many thanks to our teachers for the preparation and work put into developing exceptional Term 4 programs.

Next week we will be celebrating NAIDOC week, 9th to 13th November and we are very excited to be a part of the celebrations.

A big thank you to Grace, Carla and Ms Gravina for their planning and enriching activities.

Outdoor Learning Area

After much planning and preparation, the outdoor learning area has commenced its construction. It is so exciting to see the sandstone and kitchen area developing into something spectacular. We will show you some photos, before and after.

Ms Gravina has also secured some funding to be used to build a worm farm and plants some herbs and vegetables.   Students will be engaged in growing their own produce and use it in their cooking.

Strategic Improvement Plan- SIP 4 year plan

The school is currently completing a rigorous situational analysis in preparation for the next 4 years planning for Bidwill Public School. We will be consulting the community including our students, so we all have a voice in the future of our students.

Our current school vision is’ The best school delivering the best education to students who deserve only the best.’ We continue to live and grow with this belief.

Kindergarten 2021

Under the Department’s current Covid policy we are now able to run onsite kindergarten orientation. Miss Marlow, our Asst. Principal K-2, is coordinating this program. Parents are still unable to stay onsite. We have a link on our website which will contain relevant information for parents of children starting school in 2021 so they have all the necessary information to support a smooth transition to school.

Year 6 Farewell

Ms Palenzuela and the stage 3 team have been working hard to make sure our year 6 celebrate their farewell, Year 6 Farewell Assembly and the end of year celebrations. We also have preschool orientation and Kindy orientation programs that you will be advised of very soon.

As you are all aware, it will be a very different scenario this year with the COVID 19 restrictions.  The school continues to provide our students with every celebration that has been traditional even with the restrictions.

Wishing you all a wonderful term

Yours in education,

Janine Macky

Positive Behaviour for Learning

Students have been engaged in Positive Behaviour for Learning (PBL) lessons each week focusing on specific positive expectations in all school settings. This weeks PBL focus is:

Week 4 - Be an upstander - Standing up and taking action when someone is being disrespectful to another.

We are safe when we wear a hat

What does it mean to be sun safe?

·     Being sun safe means we understand that the sun can be harmful and a hat is a sensible way of protecting ourselves

·     Being sun safe means we develop the safe habit of wearing a hat at all times when outdoors regardless of how hot it is

·     Being sun safe means we make safe decisions about where to play, how to stay cool and how to make safe, healthy and protective choices.

Bring your water bottle to school

With Summer fast approaching and Covid restrictions still in place, students are asked to bring a water bottle to school as bubblers are not available to drink from. Students will be able to refill their bottle only during the day.

Attendance matters

100% attendance in Term 3 2020

Please respond to the message if your child is absent or late for school

Automated Attendance SMS system

Don’t forget if you receive an SMS about your child being absent from school please reply to the message with the reason your child is away or their absence will be marked as unjustfied.

It is vital that the school has your up-to-date mobile and email details.

School Travel - Term 4 2020

Applications for student travel in 2021 opened from Monday 12 October 2020.

Students who require a School Opal card or travel pass for 2021 can now apply online. A new application should be submitted if a student is applying for a school travel pass for the first time or requesting an additional pass as a result of a new shared parental responsibility situation (e.g. joint custody).

Students who have changed school/campus, changed address, repeated a year or received an expiry notification from Transport for NSW for their school travel entitlement should re-apply or update their details.

*Applications must be completed by the student's parent or legal guardian if the student is aged under 16 years. Students 16 years and over must complete the application form themselves.

Where there is a change of distance eligibility based on a student’s grade, the system will automatically update a student’s entitlement if they meet the new criteria. If they do not meet the new eligibility criteria, they will receive an expiry notification via email.

Students who have an entitlement approved under a medical condition which is due to expire will receive a notification advising them to re-apply.

Term Bus Pass holders will receive a notification to re-apply. If a student needs to update their information or re-apply, they should go online to https://apps.transport.nsw.gov.au/ssts/updateDetails

Applications need to be submitted before 31 December 2020 to ensure that current student entitlements are updated and their current entitlement/card remains valid. If their application is submitted after 31 December 2020, the system will automatically cancel an entitlement/card and a new one will need to be issued.

Students in the Opal network applying for a SSTS or Term Bus Pass entitlement for the first time will receive their card at their nominated postal address. Cards will be mailed out from January 2021.

Students residing in Rural and Regional (R&R) areas should receive their travel pass at the commencement of the new school year from their nominated operator, this may be distributed via the school or sent direct to their address. Note: some R&R operators do not issue travel passes. Students/Parents should confirm with their nominated operator if they do not receive a pass.

New Concession Entitlement Cards

Transport for NSW will be replacing the below cards with Transport Concession Entitlement Cards (TCEC) from October 2020:  Senior Secondary Student Concession Card (16 years and over) – also used by Mature Secondary Students (18 years and over), Distance Education Students and Home School Students

 Proof of Age card (when a student under 16 years of age looks older)  Boarder Rail Pass. All previous cards will be valid until they expire. Students who require a Transport Concession Entitlement Card should speak with their school administration staff.

Enquiries regarding school student travel can be submitted to Transport for NSW at:  https://transportnsw.info/contact-us/feedback/passes-concessions-feedback
