WELCOME BACK

I trust that people had a relaxing holiday period with students having the opportunity to recharge their batteries and also providing a little bit of help around the house and garden. Our teachers visited many different places including South Australia, New South Wales, Tasmania and the Northern Territory. This term is going to be another busy one with

· 5/6 host pre-service teacher Josh Keller

· Grade 3 – 6 students developing their speeches for House Public Speaking,

· Assessments being completed in reading, writing, phonics and mathematics,

· The primary school fete will be held on Friday 21st October 4:30 – 7:30.

· The swimming program and swimming carnival,

· Year 6 to 7 transition programs,

· Kinder transition programs,

· Grade 3 – 6 students will be involved in Bike Education.

· Pre-service teacher Kara Johnson will be involved in a placement with Prep students later in the term.

· Grade Prep/1 extended day, Grade 2 sleep over.

WELCOME JOSH KELLER

Josh Keller, a third-year pre-service teacher from Latrobe University will be working in 5/6 Gove for the next three weeks. We trust that his time there is filled with lots of learning and he can develop strong connections with the students and staff that he comes into contact.

SCHOOL FETE

To provide people with a glimpse of some possible things to occur at the Fete

The very popular spinning wheel with Michael Henderson and Russell Hunter preparing for another spin.

HOUSE PUBLIC SPEAKING

All students in Years Three to Six are involved in speaking on a topic of their choice based around the theme of History. Students in Year Three and Four will speak for a minimum of two minutes and a maximum of three minutes. Students in Years Five and Six will speak for between three and four minutes.

They will initially present to their class, then their House. Should they be successful in being chosen as one of the four representatives for their House, they will present at the House Public Speaking Final on Friday

4th November to Judges Mrs Charlotte Pyers and Miss Jessica Fell. Parents or extended family who wish to watch the speeches are invited to attend at any stage during proceedings. Please make sure you sign in at the office prior to attending the classroom. House Public Speaking - History: Grade 3/4 Topics:

ENROLMENT FORMS FOR PREP 2023 ARE NOW BEING ACCEPTED

Prep enrolments are now being accepted for 2023. The enrolment pack may be collected from the front office, with Kate or Kelly being available to assist with any questions you may have. As you can imagine staffing is dependent upon enrolment figures so the sooner, we are able to finalise student numbers, the sooner we can get our staffing sorted out for next year.

SCHOOL REVIEW NEWS

Today was the last day of our school review. Following this, we will develop our goals for the next four years and create a strategic plan. I found the process to be thorough and highly informative. It has reinforced the work that has occurred over the last four years, in particular the focus on teaching phonics, fluency and phonemic awareness in reading and writing. This would not have been possible without the support of Mrs Klinge (DMSC Principal), Mr Kellett (Principal Warracknabeal Primary School), Dr Joanna Day (Senior Improvement Education Leader), Mr Fearnside (School reviewer), Mrs Gove and Mrs Jennie Hauselberger

(School Council President). In addition, I acknowledge the information provided by parent/carers, teachers and education support staff. I look forward to our strategic plan being developed.
