Principal's Message

Dear Community

Despite heading full steam into the peak of COVID, we have still managed to have a pretty amazing couple of weeks! Please read below for some of the things that our students have been involved in.

Swim Carnival

Yesterday, our Year 3-6 students had a fun afternoon showing off their swimming skills at the Claremont Aquatic Centre. Amongst all the fun, lots of points were earned for the Houses, and it was a very close competition for the title of Swimming Champions 2022.

The final scores were:

Challenger - 120

Parmelia - 117

Stirling -101

Congratulations to all staff and students involved for working together to make the event such a success. Photos and a list of champion girls and boys can be found below.

Harmony Week

This week we celebrated Harmony Week throughout our school. Harmony Week celebrates Australia’s cultural diversity. It is about inclusiveness, respect and a sense of belonging for everyone. The motto of Everyone Belongs, is one that is well embedded in the Scarborough community.

Students participated in a range of learning activities in their classrooms throughout the week and listened to an ‘over the air’ reading of a diversity themed book “What do you call your Grandma?” We finished the week with students dressing up in their national/cultural colours. An amazing 21 countries (listed below) were represented!

France, Sweden, Germany, Bhutan, New Zealand, South Africa, Brazil, Australia, Malaysia, England, Poland, Ireland, Netherlands, Wales, Sri Lanka, Italy, Indonesia, Vietnam, Croatia, Scotland and Greece!

Ride to School Day

This morning our unstoppable Your Move Team hosted an obstacle course morning in celebration of National Ride to School Day. What a great way to end the week! There were two obstacle courses; one on the basketball court and another, (more mountain bike style) on the oval!

Fill | Your Move Parent Survey

Scarborough Primary School is a Your Move School. This means we are committed to encouraging our students to use bikes, scooters, walking and public transport to get to and from school safely more often. This survey will enable us to find out a little about how you travel to school, what challenges you face using active modes of transport and where possible, find solutions to these challenges. We aim to reduce the number of cars at drop off and pick up times, to create a safer space around our school environment.    In September 2021 we ran a competition for families to complete the PDF version of the Parent Survey. Firstly, a massive thank you to all our parents who completed the Your Move Parent Survey last year! We appreciate your time and effort to complete and return them. Our results didn’t reflect as well as we hoped with only up to 10% responding. Here is an online version that can be completed at the touch of a button from a smart phone! Please complete the survey and let us hear from you!

COVID Information

Thank you to those parents who have phoned to clarify aspects of their individual situation, particularly around close contacts and whether or not it is ok for their children to come to school. Please continue to do so. It can help to talk through what are sometimes complex or confusing situations when trying to make decisions. It is especially important that you let me know if your child tests positive for COVID, so that I can start communication and contact tracing processes quickly and effectively.

As we hit the predicted peak of COVID infections within our state, I thought I’d share with you some numbers relevant to our context.

  • 24 students have tested positive across our school so far. That is 10% of students
  • This week we have had up to 31% of our students either positive or in a form of isolation
  • 18% of our students are currently unable to attend due to a positive result or being a house hold contact at the moment
  • We expect these figures to fluctuate but also continue to rise overall as more students become affected, but other students start returning after they have recovered or ended isolation.

As always, if you have any queries, please don’t hesitate to call or email me on Sarah.Dawson@education.wa.edu.au

CANTEEN

We are always looking for canteen volunteers. So, if you or anyone in your immediate family (aunts, uncles, grandparents etc) have any Friday mornings available, Laura would love some assistance in the SPS canteen.

Helping out in canteen means that you come in and support Laura for 2 hours, usually between 10am-12pm or 11am-1pm; whatever works for you. Duties consist of washing dishes, prepping pizzas, handing out lunches, etc.

Email us at the P&C or speak to Laura on Fridays in the canteen if you are keen to help.

A special reminder to all Kindy group 2 parents and caregivers; you can also order lunch and recess from canteen every Friday. Don’t bother making yet another lunch; order before Friday 8.30am via Quickcliq.com.au and we will deliver it your child’s classroom!

Please also note that all canteen orders need to be placed via QuickCliq prior to 8.30am on Friday. Cash is not accepted.
