Dernancourt School Newsletter

25th November 2022

From the Leadership Team

We have had a number of our learners representing our school in various ways this term. We are always so pleased with the way all our learners represent themselves and our school when attending special events.  We are especially proud of the following students who were selected to participate in activities that allowed them to demonstrate their skills and talents at district and state level.

Congratulations to them all for their positive participation and the learning they have been a part of.

Student Forum

On Tuesday November 8th, Year 5 students Parthavi Prajapati, Sihang Zhang, Jace Morrison and Radin Hassanzadeh attended the Department for Education 2022 Public Education Forum. Hundreds of students from across Adelaide attended the forum held at the Adelaide Convention Centre. Throughout the day, students engaged in a variety of activities aimed at gaining students' insight and ideas about enhancing the school experience.

"I learned about academics and perseverance. We talked about what schools need more of. We also looked at data and noticed that the older students get (in high school), the less confident they become and gave our ideas on why this might happen".  Parthavi

"We discussed innovation and change for school across South Australia. Radin

"Listening to guest speakers was very inspirational and made me feel confident".   Jace

"My takeaway from this experience is that students are able to make big changes in how schools are able to deliver education. Looking at news, data and research can help us to identify how we make these changes. On the day we discussed improvements for student perseverance and academic self-concept".  Sihang

Parthavi, Sihang, Jace and Radin showed excellent leadership representing our school and were highly engaged in discussions around innovation and change for public education.  They have shared their stories and highlights from the day with their classes.

Well done team we look forward to seeing them work with their teachers to initiate and innovate changes across our school.

Garden Club

In Week 4, Nyssa P14, Amelia P8, Hugh P3, Monique J3 and Toby J4 were part of our Garden Group volunteers. They helped rake the soil, water the wheat we planted in the garden bed, harvest greens and plant parsley and lettuce. We’re really starting to see some great results from everyone who has helped in our Garden Club since it began in Term 3.
