Week 3 – Term 4, 2022

Message From The Principal

Dear Parents and Carers

ATTENDANCE- Did you Know?

95% attendance

Students are expected to have above a 95% school attendance rate, because days missed is years lost. That’s why making sure your child comes to school every single day (unless genuinely sick) is so important.

NATIONAL BANDANNA DAY 2022

Don’t forget to wear your Bandanna this Thursday October 27. Bandannas can be purchased from the front office. Cost of bandannas is $5.00.

2023 PLANNING

If you are planning on moving during the Christmas holidays, it is important to let the office know ASAP as we are beginning the planning for 2023 staffing and classes.

HATS

Regardless of the weather students are to wear school hats everyday. Please make sure hats are labelled.

CONGRATULATIONS TO OUR AMAZING CLEANER

Linda Spackman, our fabulous cleaner was nominated for an Australia wide award, that put her into the finals. She was flown to Uluru last week for the award ceremony and won ‘THE PACIFIC Apple of the Year AWARD’. We are very proud of her. It is well deserved as she works hard, takes pride in her job and our school, has amazing rapport with staff and students and is a shining star in our community. Congratulations Linda.

Regards,

2B Happenings

2B has had a busy and exciting start to Term 4. Assessments are underway and we have enjoyed the Koala Hospital excursion and Science Day experiments. We have been learning lots about animals in English and patterns in Math. Students are particularly proud of the eagle artworks that they have created.

Koala Hospital Excursion

Our infants’ classes visited the Koala Hospital in Port Macquarie at the start of this term. Students enjoyed listening to our guides as they shared heart-warming stories of rescue koalas and how they have recovered. There was even a surprise baby koala in one of the enclosures. K-2 also put their detective hats on as they searched parts of Port Macquarie for Koala statues. The best was a Golden Koala that they found just near our playground lunch stop. A great day was had by all and we were extremely proud of how well-mannered students were throughout the day.

Science Week 2022

This year's theme for Science Week was "Glass". What a curious theme! We learnt that glass is used for lots of technology applications such as laptops, robots and mobile phones. We also noted that glass is used in building and design, and it can also be recycled and reused over and over again!

Student scientists participated in activities including creating a stained glass window, designing a marble run and participating in a coding activity where we programmed our "walking machines".  Each class has also been playing with robotics and lego technics kits, learning how to construct and edit computer programs for their robots to follow. We have some very talented computer engineers in our school!

4/5R Science Week Fun!

Last week during Science Week, 4/5R was lucky enough to get to use the Lego Robotics kits. There are iPads and lego kits that allow you to build lots of different machines and vehicles.

The first build taught you what to do and it was a snail. From there it got more complex and you could build cars and robots. Once you got the hang of it you were able to get creative and make your own designs and lots of our class even made them race against one another.

On the iPad it was quite hard but once you learn the process of what to do it was quite simple. We made a race car and learnt how to make it go faster, move backwards and do circles both ways. It was so much fun! My favourite skill I learnt was how to make the motor change colours using the iPad.
