Eleebana Extra

Monday 12 August 2019 Week 4 Term 3

From the Principal

Education Week

Thank you to all those who came out to help us celebrate Education Week!

Our special assembly really highlighted the incredible talents of our students and it was wonderful to see so many families enjoying the open classrooms and having a look at the great work that goes on at Eleebana Public School each day.

EPS Bands @ Charlestown Square

Our Junior and Senior Bands gave a magnificent performance at Charlestown Square last week.

As part of our Education Week celebrations, their outstanding performances stopped shoppers in their tracks as they gathered around to see our Bands play.

All their hours of practice and early morning rehearsals paid off, as they showed just how far these young musicians have come. Thanks go to Ms Wingrove, Ms Wallace and Ms Phillipa, and of course to all our Band members - our school is so proud of you!

Staff News: relieving AP Junior Wellbeing

With Mr May currently relieving as Deputy Principal, Mr Burrows will step into the Assistant Principal Junior School Wellbeing role. This is a great opportunity for Mr Burrows who is looking forward to working to support our Junior School students and their families.

Mornings at Eleebana PS

Just a few quick reminders to make sure our students are safe and have a great start to their mornings at school.

Firstly, we continue to have parents drop their children at school prior to 8:30am when supervision begins. While we understand that an early start to the day may be necessary for the children of working parents, we would remind all families that our onsite OOSH operates every morning for just this purpose.

Secondly, after 8:30 our teachers are supervising set areas of the playground for Junior and Senior school students. No students should be playing down around classrooms or in out of bounds areas -even if with their parents. We ask that if parents are planning on staying on school grounds during the morning play time, that they please move to the top COLA area (near the Hall and Library). This will not only encourage students to be in the right place, but will satisfy our child protection requirements around having adults on site.

School News

Administration News

Thank you to those families who have made payment on their Term 3 Statement of Account that was sent home last week with your child.

We have three options to pay:

  • Online Payment – which is our preferred payment method
  • Cash
  • Eftpos

I have included the Online Payment instructions for those families that are unfamiliar with this safe and easy process.

Making online payments

It is now possible for parents to make online payments to the school for amounts owing for students, via a secure payment page hosted by Westpac. Payments can be made using either a Visa or MasterCard credit card or debit card, and can be made via computer, tablet or mobile phone.

The payment page is accessed from the front page of our school’s website

https://eleebana-p.schools.nsw.gov.au/

by selecting $ Make a payment,

under “View our latest newsletter”.

Westpac has recently improved the system to allow more time for details to be entered and for parents to be able to make payments using the auto-fill option, thus not having to re-enter their details. Payment can now be made via a credit card or via direct debit from a bank account.

Items that can be paid include voluntary school contributions, subject contributions, excursions, sales to students and creative and practical arts activities (these include band, drama and dance).

There is also a category called ‘Other’ to cover items not covered in the previous headings, ‘Other’ can be used to make a complete payment of a school Statement of Account.

When you access the $ Make a payment you must enter:

  • the student’s name
  • class
  • date of birth.

These details are entered each time you make a payment as student information is not held within the payment system. This is a secure payment system hosted by Westpac to ensure that your credit card or debit card details are captured in a secure manner. These details are not passed back to the school.

You have the ability to check and change any details of the payment before the payment is processed. Receipts can be emailed and/or printed. Details of the payments are passed daily to the school where they will be receipted against your child’s account. As a receipt has been issued to you from the payment page a further receipt will not be issued by the school. For any enquiries regarding the online payment process please contact the School Administration Office on 49468927.

We will endeavour to continually keep you up to date with costs and expenses incurred by your child/children. If you have a discrepancy, change of address/home details or need further information please do not hesitate to contact the front office on 49468927 or by email:

Eleebana-p.school@det.nsw.edu.au

We welcome feedback, suggestions and comments that can improve the communication, administration and financial processes making school life a little more accessible and easy for all. Please do not hesitate to contact me in person, by phone or email if you would like to discuss in detail.

Premier's Reading Challenge

2 weeks to go!!

Thank you to all of those super readers who have already completed their challenge and brought their printed reading log to the library to be validated.

Books read in class, at home, with friends or even grandparents can be counted towards the challenge. We would love to see everyone at EPS finish the challenge in 2019. Please remember that all completed reading logs need to be printed out and brought into the library for Mrs Hopper to validate. If you don't have access to a printer at home, please let us know and we are more than happy to help print it out at school.

It's NOT too late to get started!

Thank You For All Book Club Orders

Thank you to all who made a Book Club order. It really helps the school library be able to update and purchase new books for our students

Canteen News

Volunteer Roster

Thank you to everyone who has signed up to help this term – we truly value your time and appreciate the help.

If anyone can lend a hand for just 2.5 hours in the morning, we would really love the help and so do the kids :-)

We need 2-3 people each day to help prepare lunches.

No experience necessary!

Eat Fresh & Win: August 5 - September 20

Surely by now you have seen the entry forms, coloured stamper pens or registration forms for the Nintendo Switch???

If the answer is YES – keep going…… each entry brings you closer to a WIN.

If the answer is NO – Please come and see us, there’s still time to enter and get collecting!

All GREEN options from the canteen menu will score an entry- so be sure to get your entry form from us each day!

All foods consumed during this period can be congratulated with an entry form (yep; even fresh and healthy foods bought from home!) All the kids need to do is come and see us at the Snack Shack for their entry forms – we will help them from there…….

Here are some ideas for the lunchbox that will get an entry form:

A good helping of fruit and vegetables

Fresh fruit is easy to pack. You can also try a tub of canned fruit or chopped fresh strawberries, pineapple or melon. Raw vegies such as carrot sticks, cherry tomatoes, cucumber or capsicum strips are popular as a snack or in a sandwich.

Starchy food

Like bread, rice, potatoes and pasta. Have a variety to choose from such as wholegrain, wholemeal or high fibre breads such as seeded rolls, Lebanese bread, pita, lavash, bagels; brown and white rice; or tricolour pasta.

Lean protein

Like tuna or salmon (fresh or canned in spring water); boiled eggs; beans; or lean meat such as beef or chicken.

Reduced fat dairy food

Like reduced fat yoghurt, reduced fat cheese or reduced fat milk (remember to pack with a bottle of ice).

A bottle of water

To keep your child hydrated all day. Freeze on hot days to keep the lunch box (and your child) nice and cool.

Healthy choices

Look at food labels to help you choose the products that are lowest in saturated fat, total fat, sugar and salt. Avoid high fat spreads and try a little avocado, low fat mayonnaise, mustard or ricotta cheese instead.

Nutritious snacks

Such as a small box or bag of dried fruit, rice cakes or unsalted and unsweetened popcorn.

Thanks,

Juley and Raychel
