Principals Message

Another busy term is almost over!

Term 2 has been busy with lots Sporting activities, our whole school excursion to Sydney and the Teachers are finalising Semester Two reports for their students.

Although school SHOULD be back to “business as normal”, we really aren’t there yet!

It seems our school community is going through a second wave of COVID at present and to complicate matters, a lot of us have suffered a really bad bout of the FLU sickness (even after having the flu injection).

This constant wave of sickness, interrupts school operation and disrupts our students learning. The only way we can continue to minimise the transmission of both diseases is to test for COVID (RAT tests are still available from the school office, when you need them) and please let us know if anyone in your family tests positive. Keep your child/ren at home if sick and until clear of symptoms.

A reminder: Students should return to school as soon as their COVID isolation period is over and as soon as they are well. The following graphic is a reminder of how important school attendance is for students learning.

In addition, thank you for replying to our attendance text messaging symptom. It supports our record keeping and the Departments attendance policy.

Taronga Zoo

It was wonderful to finally be able to go on our annual whole school excursion.

Taronga Zoo is always a wonderful place to visit but it is the entire experience of the excursion which is truly magnificent.

Our whole school excursions always remind me of what a wonderful bunch of teachers and students we have at Zig Zag PS.

The students ALWAYS step up on the day and make me so proud, not only with their exemplary behaviour but with the way they work with the teachers as a team and “do their bit” for the success of the day.

It is also a wonderful reminder of how important our Peer Support program and Buddy program truly are, in contributing to the development of our students as members of the wider community.

Well done Zig Zag Students and thank you to all our teachers for always being excited to go on our whole school excursions. An extra thank you to Mrs Wood who volunteered to organise this excursion this year, it’s a massive job!

Term 2 Sport

“It’s been a busy term of sport….” is an understatement!

· The Athletics Carnival was very enjoyable and although wasn’t held at our beloved Oakey Park oval, having the use of the facilities at Jim Monaghan Atletics track was definitely a bonus. Students will be representing our school at the District carnival in Week3 Term 3.

· Cross Country - it was tricky trying to squeeze in our cross country carnival during all the wet weather earlier in the term, but with a glimpse of sunshine on a Friday, we made it happen.

Congratulations to the following students who participated in the District Cross Country at Wallerawang. They were:  Matilda Duffy, Elijah Barnes, Isikeli Tamanitoakula, Xavier Stiller, Cooper Whichelo, Amelia Keath, Mahailia Steele, Jessica Harding, Brayden Phillips, Elijah Hatte, Daniel McKay, Lakiya Capon, Kaedence Capon, Angus Small, Cody Smith, Brenton St John-Finn, Summer Sirisisavath, Claire Eagle, Olivia Selman.

An extra congratulations to Cody Smith who qualified to participate at Western Region held at Geurie.

· Four weeks of Sporting Schools was once again a huge success. Students enjoyed Tennis, Swimming, Gymnastics and an added bonus was Zumba with Mrs Howell

We hope to be successful for another round of sporting schools grant in Term 3.

· It is great to see the sportsmanship and team work when our students participate in the PSSA Team Sports.

Netball Report: A great game was had with Lithgow Public School. Both school’s displayed wonderful sportsmanship, with Zig zag scoring the most goals in our history.

Soccer Report: We went to Rangers Park with our boys and girls team to play Wallerawang Public School.

The boys had a tough match and showed great sportsmanship and skill for their first time as a team.

The girls team played short with only 8 players and performed brilliantly, with great spirit and attitude.

Everyone came back with huge smiles on their faces.

Other School News

· Recorders for Sale- Next term Mr Cook will be using recorders in music lessons. Due to the current COVID situation, it is recommended that students purchase their own recorder. We are sourcing a supply of recorders to be purchased from school, at a low price.

· 2023 Kindergarten Enrolment- we are taking enrolments now.

· Please Note: Change of day for Puffing Billies due to staffing issues.

Our Puffing Billies program will be held on Tuesdays this year. The program will commence in Week 7 (30th August) and will run through to Week 10 of Term 4.

School Reminders

· Morning and Afternoon Drop Off and Pick Up - we will continue to use this arrangement for drop off in the morning and pick up in the afternoon, as it has improved the management and flow of traffic in front of the school.

Please Note: We will continue to walk students down to Mill Street, where parents and carers can park and chat to one another until we deliver the children to you.

This arrangement has really improved the congestion in front of the school.

· School start times – just a friendly reminder that teachers are not required to be at school until 8.30am in the morning. Please do not leave your children at school prior to 8.30am, as they are not supervised by teachers.
