Term 1 Week 10, 2023

Principal's Report

Ramadan

Ramadan Mubarak to our students, staff and community members who are observing Ramadan this month.  wish our staff, students and community members who are observing Ramadan this month.

Rydalmere Public School is offering prayer space for students during Ramadan.  The school will open up the hall during lunch. Students are welcome to come between 1:10 and 1:30pm and offer the Dhur prayer individually. Prayer mats will be provided.  Students will be supervised by an executive staff member. Permission notes are required for students to use the prayer space, and were distributed to our Muslim Scripture students last week.

If your child wishes to use the prayer space but did not receive a permission slip, please contact the school office.

Thank you Mrs Rana for arranging this service.

Good Friday and Easter

Good Friday takes place on Friday, April 7, and Easter will be Sunday April 9. School holidays will also commence on Good Friday.

Our traditional Easter Hat Parade and P&C raffle will take place on Thursday April 6 at 2 p.m.

Staff Updates - Years 3-6

Our Year 3 teachers, Mrs Dhanji and Ms James will be leaving us at the end of Term 1. I would like to thank them both for their dedication to their students this term. In Term 2, our newly appointed permanent teacher, Mrs Belinda Arnott will join our staff and will take over the Year 3 class. Mrs Arnott is an exceptional teacher, with many years experience teaching primary students of all ages, including students who are gifted, have learning disabilities or other complex needs. She will be a wonderful addition to our school.

Our Year 6 teacher, Mrs Dube will be on leave from the beginning of Term 2 until the end of 2023. Mrs Dube has been teaching 6H 3 days per week this year, alongside Ms Yap, who has been teaching 6H the other 2 days each week.  From Term 2, Ms Yap will take over the class 4 days per week.  I will announce the name of the teacher who will take 6H on Fridays at a later date.

Mr Bui, on Year 4, will also finish his full-time position with us at the end of term. Mr Bui was employed for the term, while we sought a permanent Assistant Principal to take over the class in Term 2. Mrs Taylor was appointed to this role in Week 5 of Term 1. Due to the complex needs of many of our students, I have decided to keep Mrs Taylor in a non-teaching role, and am running a recruitment process to find a suitable Year 4 teacher.

While we would have loved Mr Bui to remain on Year 4 for the remainder of this year, this won't be possible. However, he will  continue working with the class on a part-time basis for the rest of the year, or for as long as he is needed.   I will announce the teacher who will take over the Year 4 class as soon as we have completed our recruitment process.

Assistant Principal Curriculum and Instruction's Report

Harmony Day

Harmony Day was celebrated on Monday 20th March.

Students and staff dressed up in their traditional costumes and wore orange.

It was a great day where all of Rydalmere came together to celebrate our different cultures.

Families shared food from their culture which was enjoyed by all.

3-6 Assistant Principal's Report

I've now been at Rydalmere Public School for a few weeks and am enjoying getting to know our students, teachers and parents. In that short time I've been to assemblies, seen our hip-hop dancers, visited classrooms and am getting to know students by name.

Harmony Week celebrated and recognised our diversity and brought all of us together to share national costumes, outfits, try our hand at drumming and eat delicious food from many different backgrounds. Rydalmere Public School knows how to put on a beautiful feast which I know was enjoyed by us all.

Year 4 parents please see information below on the Opportunity Class application process.
