TOKSAVE - Lihir International School

Term 2, Week 5, 2020

From the Principal

Students are currently preparing for Student Led Conferences that will take place next Wednesday evening at a sutable time at home. During these conferences, your child / children will share their learning with someone at home, who may not be aware of what they have been learning during remote teaching. For parents who have not previously been involved in this process, the focus is on children leading the conference with the aim for them to think about their learning and effectively communicate their opinions, ideas and improvement targets to someone else.

Students in the high school will prepare a Learning Video that will showcase what they have been working on over the last 5 weeks. This can be played to their parents on Wednesday evening and will be repeated at the week 6 Friday assembly.

Please note that although some PNG schools opened for a trial period  it is expected that LIS will remain closed for the duration of Term 2, unless otherwise directed by Newcrest management.

Please do not forget to join our assembly at 9am tomorrow. Click on the Meet link in the LIS Assembly classroom in Google Classroom and remember to mute your microphone.

Please contact myself or your child's teachers if you have any queries or concerns regarding your child's education at LIS.

Term 2 Student Council Activities

Students are invited to enter into a Covid 19 mask making competition. Let your imagination go and design and create a mask to reflect your understanding of the pandemic. Send a photo of yourself wearing your mask to your class teacher before the end of Week 8, Friday June 5. Maybe you could include a couple of shots of your mask taken from different angles.

Students in Prep to Year 2 may choose to enter a colour in competition instead. Templates may be collected from school when you collect your at home learning pack for Weeks 5 to 9. You have 4 pictures to choose from.

SRC are also holding a Pyjama Day on Friday May 29. You are invited to attend your classes in your pyjamas on that day. No gold coin required to participate, but beware a fine if you don’t.

From the Deputy Principal

With us needing to stay close to home, I thought I would share some interesting virtual activities for you to explore with your child. This week it is time to visit the zoo!

Here are links to Taronga Zoo (Sydney NSW) and the San Diego Zoo (California).

https://taronga.org.au/taronga-tv

https://kids.sandiegozoo.org/

Enjoy watching the animals live on the web-cam, finding out about different animals and meeting some of the zoo-keepers who look after the animals.

I hope everyone has a great weekend.
