From the Principal

Dear Parents and Carers,

Here we are in the final term of another busy, eventful and successful school year. We are in the beautiful season of Spring, a season that typically symbolises new growth. When I reflect on this with reference to school life I can see the changes in all of our students. Our prep students have had sudden growth spurts, and they have made incredible gains in the start of their learning journey. Then to the opposite end of the school, our Year 6 students begin their countdown to farewelling their primary school years and starting a whole new chapter in their lives. These are all such exciting times, and if the pandemic has taught us anything, it is to slow down and enjoy these moments and privileges of life.

Our wonderful Year 6 students will begin to enter into their final celebrations of primary schooling. These are such important rites of passage for them and their families. This term will go by in a flash, so it is very important to read the information we send home and mark the important events in your calendars. We have transition days, end of year presentations, Year 6 day out, Graduation and so much more to squeeze in. Some key things to remember:

  • If you are enrolling a prep student for 2023, please ensure this is done sooner rather than later.
  • If you are leaving us at the end of 2022, please notify Admin so that we can ensure our predications for next year are as accurate as possible.
  • Swimming Lessons

Swimming commences on Tuesday 1 November and will continue each week for 5 weeks.

Students from Year 1 to Year 6 need to bring the following in a separate swimming bag:

    • Towel
    • Swimming sunshirt (rashie) WITH SLEEVES
    • Goggles
    • Thongs (to be put on at school)
    • Sunscreen (school supplied if you don't have your own)

The students will get dressed here at school, but as you imagine, this is quite the process!

Please make sure every bit of clothing and accessory has your child's name on it. (Including underwear and socks please, because nobody ever claims that they have lost their undies....)

    Prep News

This term in Prep we have been learning all about movement. We have explored how humans and animals move and how different objects can roll and/or bounce. This week in our class we looked at spinning and had fun creating our own spin tops. Check out this photo of us learning about how different sizes and shapes affect an object’s ability to spin.

    Making Fairy Bread

Last week we made Fairy Bread in Year 1.

We followed the procedure that we wrote in our English lesson, we made it and then enjoyed it.

Procedures are a great way to learn new things and this week we are writing procedures for our Big Buddies in Year5/6.

    Year 2/3 News

In 2/3 we have been learning about different poetic devices in English. We can identify alliteration and onomatopoeia (sound) words in lots of different poems. We have had some fun making similes using the words ‘like’ or ‘as’ to compare two things. We’re almost as clever as Einstein!

    Year 3/4 News

    Dear Families,

In science this week, students have been learning about all the ways landforms can be weathered. Students formed groups to become experts on one method each. The ways that the students researched were: physical weathering, water weathering, wind weathering, ice weathering, heating and cooling, chemical weathering and organic weathering.

Students were in small groups and prepared a poster and small presentation on their topic to present to the class.

The students did a great job of presenting and being an audience. They were also fantastic collaborative learners during the research process. I also overheard many supportive conversations between students who were feeling very nervous about getting up in front of the class.

    Year 5/6 News

This fortnight has seen a few changes. Mr Green has finished up working alongside Ms Harrison and is now off finishing his teaching degree. We have met Miss Lynne and had her work in our classroom and also spent time with Mrs Daly.

We are busy preparing our Awards night presentation piece and most importantly we are working towards finalising all of our learning for the year. Every day is important.

    Day for Daniel

We had an individual moment of reflection about the support that we have to help guide us through life. It was fantastic to see that the students ran out of spaces, before they ran out of names of the people they trust and can rely on. It is awesome to see that they all feel so supported and have a strong network that they can turn to.

    Robotics Competition

We would like to wish our classmates Kuljan, Ashton, Micah and Oscar all the best at the robotics competition tomorrow. We look forward to sharing their success with you all next newsletter.

    P&C NEWS

    Our school needs your help!

Unless we get a new Executive for our P&C, in 2023, we will have

    • no tuckshop
    • potentially no Kitchen/Garden program
    • no new playground
    • excursions and sporting events will be more expensive
    • have less new educational resources for your children
    • no Mother’s Day or Father’s Day stalls
    • And so much more.

Carrie and her team have put a phenomenal amount of time and effort in for the past few years, but it’s time for a new group of eager parents and carers to take their place. Please see Admin or our P&C meeting reps to find out how you can help.

    Woolworths Junior Landcare Grant

With our Woolworths Junior Landcare Grant, our school has continued our wildlife surveys and our list of species that share our school is getting longer.  So far we've completed a butterfly survey, bird survey and our favourite - using the wildlife monitoring cameras. In late August we captured this great shot of the male bowerbird, showing off a blue bottle cap to 3 females that are interested in his fantastic bower!

We've learnt that males use the bower to perform an intricate dance to attract females. Competition between males is intense and can include stealing materials from each other’s bowers with the aim of displaying the best-looking structure to visiting females. Later, females lay the eggs in a saucer-shaped nest high up in the canopy.

Perhaps in this photo he is performing a dance for the ladies...
