Principal's Message

Welcome back to term 3!

We would like to welcome all our new families to CPS, we know you will thoroughly enjoy the amazing CPS community.

While Term 2 was busy, this term is set to be super busy with lots of great learning opportunities organised. We kick the term off with the Quairading Tree Planting camp, the Robocup Junior Challenge, our Book Week  and school photos. This is followed by STEAM Week, Athletics Carnival and our Learning journey to end the term. Our amazing P & C have a few events planned to add to the mix of community fun! How could you not love being at school!

Thank you to our amazing families who sent Award Applause to staff and CPS as part of the WA Education Awards 2022. The WA Education Awards 2022 is now open for nominations. The awards honour outstanding schools and teams that demonstrate collective leadership, innovation and community spirit. At CPS we are extremely proud to demonstrate all these wonderful facets that fully support our students to grow and achieve their best.

Sorry to say COVID-19 is still with us and we continue to exercise solid health and well-being processes. We actively encourage our community to also continue best health practices when entering the school. Please be mindful to not send your child to school if they are showing any COVID or flu-like symptoms.

We were extremely pleased to be able to find a solution to the Traffic Wardens situation on Pearson yesterday. The school is working closely with the Police – Children’s Crossing Unit, to find a permanent solution to this issue. Christine Tonkin MLA has also been supporting our cause through ongoing discussions with Councils and the police. There is a chronic shortage of wardens across the metro area so unfortunately, a fast solution is not possible. Attached is information for anyone, or someone they know, who may be interested in becoming a Traffic Warden, it’s only a few hours a day and is a great way to give back to the community.

GIFTED AND TALENTED: Primary Extension Challenge (PEAC) ASSESSMENT OF YEAR 4 STUDENTS FOR THE PEAC PROGRAM

The PEAC Program provides part-time extension and enrichment for exceptionally able students in Years 5 and 6.

PEAC offers a range of courses that provide identified students with work that is intellectually challenging.

All students in Year 4 will have the opportunity to be assessed for suitability for the PEAC Program.

Testing for all Year 4 students will take place during week 3 of Term 3 2022. There are 2 x 20-minute paper-based assessments, one Verbal Reasoning and one Mathematical Reasoning test.

The scores from the test will be used in the selection of students for PEAC courses and extension programs from 2023 to 2024 and also inform educational provision in schools.

If you do not wish your child to be included in the PEAC assessment, please notify the school in writing by Friday 22 July 2022.

NATIONALLY CONSISTENT COLLECTION OF DATA (NCCD) ON SCHOOL STUDENTS WITH DISABILITY

Every year, all schools in Australia participate in the Nationally Consistent Collection of Data on School Students with Disability (NCCD). The NCCD process requires schools to identify information already available in the school about support provided to students with disability. These relate to legislative requirements under the Disability Discrimination Act 1992 and the Disability Standards for Education 2005, in line with the NCCD guidelines (2019).

The NCCD will have no direct impact on your child and your child will not be involved in any testing process. The school will provide data to the Australian Government in such a way that no individual student will be able to be identified – the privacy and confidentiality of all students is ensured.

Further information about the NCCD can be found on the attached Fact Sheet for Parents, Guardians and Carers.
