A beautiful ceremony for the Sacrament of First  Eucharist was celebrated last Saturday. The children all looked beautiful and it was a wonderful school and family celebration. Thank you to Jessi and Anne-Maree for the preparation of the children and for the effort and planning that went into the Mass that made it such a memorable occasion.

Vermont Children's Centre

It was exciting to hear the noise of excavation this week, and big trucks coming in and out as the Child Care Centre begins to take shape. Hopefully over the two weeks of school break they are able to make big progress on renovations and extensions. We are looking forward to the opening in September this year. We have received many enquiries about enrolling children at the centre and school for next year.

It is an exciting move forward for our community.

Learning & Teaching

Jr Jack Attack Bringing Bowls to Kids

Our Sporting Schools Program for Term 3 is Jr Jack Attack. We will be supplied with a teacher kit of lessons and a bowls Jr Jack Attack equipment  kit. We are also very grateful to Bowls Australia who are supporting us by sending a bowls enthusiast to teach staff and children.

Orienteering Challenges

Finally this week we had brilliant sunshine as the children were challenged in a 40 station orienteering course. Working both independently or with a partner the children read maps and followed clues to complete the course. The sound of scampering feet, cheers of delight and laughter filled the air. It was fantastic to see the obvious enjoyment and sense of achievement of the children. We are very fortunate to be able to fund this through the Sporting Schools Program.

Gymnastics

Today completed our 7 week Gymnastics course for our Prep to Year 6 children. It was gratifying to see the progress of the children over the time.

Our Gymnastics program is an enjoyable carefully sequenced progression of lessons that develops each student's ability to enjoy and perform movement sequences combining effort, space, objects and people. The program is directly linked with the Australian Health and Physical Education Curriculum. We plan to offer the program again in 2021.

Child Safety

Social Media

A reminder that the legal age for children to be able to sign up for most Social Media sites e.g Facebook, Instagram & Snapchat is 13 years old. This is in effort to keep children safe from online hazards from known and unknown sources. Whilst parents are responsible for the final choice of whether they permit their child to access Social Media sites, St Timothy's does not grant children permission to use their school email address. Please assist us in keeping your child safe online.

Mobile Phones

Thank you for the positive response to storing mobile phones in office during school time.

This rule is in place to protect children from cyber bullying  from known and unknown people. Parents can always contact Gail in the office if they need to get a message to their child.

A reminder also for children to not text & walk or walk & talk (particularly if crossing roads) as it is very easy for children ( and adults) to be distracted by the conversation /text and not pay attention to their surroundings.

Thank you

Thank you to all our families who have worked in partnership with school, contributed to fundraising and appeals, helped with homework, who have been on, or supported Parent Committees, attended Sacrament nights and celebrations or helped with special lunch days. Your partnership is greatly appreciated.
