A message from our Principal

Grandparent’s Day

It was great to finally see the return of our annual Grandparents Day event! This is one of our favourite events on the school calendar, as we know how much the grandparents in our community enjoy visiting the school and spending time in the classrooms. To all the grandparents, we very much appreciate the support you give our students and their parents.

Tell Them From Me Survey

Thank you to everyone who took the time to complete the Tell Them From Me Survey. The survey is now closed, and we managed to achieve a massive 266 Responses! Over the coming weeks we will analyse the responses and formulate a plan to address areas of need and continue areas of success in 2023.

Ready for School

Week 3 of the R4S program continues this week in preparation for 2023 Kindergarten enrolment. Our kindergarten team is busily gathering information to assist with the formation of classes. If you know anyone living in our school zone who has kindergarten aged children for 2023, please don’t hesitate to refer them to our school office for further details.

Ethics Teachers

The Primary Ethics program is a very popular program that has been running at WWS in recent years. The program teaches students about sound decisions making and contributing positively in the community. Currently, we have a large group of students on waiting lists to attend Ethics, as the course relies on volunteer teachers from the community to run the lessons.

If you have an interest in being involved in the delivery of this highly valuable program at WWS, please contact the office so that we can provide you with the relevant details.

Leaving WWS in 2023?

If you are moving out of the area in 2023 and know you will not be returning to our school for the new year, please contact the office and let us know. This information is essential for the staffing and class formation process in the weeks to come.

Have a great week everyone,

Matt Barr

Principal

Positive Behaviour for Learning

Respect

-       Follow the playground duty teacher’s instructions

-       Show good sportsmanship

Responsibility

-       When the music starts stop the game immediately

Relationships

-       Share the ball

-       Include everyone in your game

-       Help students beginning the game to learn the rules

The PBL Team

PBL “Positive Behavioural Learning” Focus – Week 6

The PBL focus for Week 6 is ‘Accepting Authority.' This means always following an adult’s instructions. When accepting authority, students should listen to the teacher and do what is asked without arguing. It is also important to allow others to listen to the teacher without interruption.

Accepting authority allows for intentional learning and positive classroom experiences across all stages at Woy Woy South.

Year 7 2024 Selective High School Placement

Intention to apply for Year 7 placement in a selective high school in 2024.

Dear Parent/Carer Selective high schools cater for academically gifted students with high potential who may otherwise be without sufficient classmates at their own academic standard. Selective high schools help these students to learn by grouping them with students of similar ability, and by using specialised teaching methods.

If you would like to have your child considered for Year 7 selective high school entry in 2024, you need to apply on the internet using a valid email address (not the student’s email address).Detailed instructions on how to apply and the link to the online form will be available in early-October 2022 athttps://education.nsw.gov.au/public-schools/selective-high-schools-and-opportunity-classes/year-7Applications open on 18 October 2022 and close on 16 November 2022.

You must apply before the closing date. You must submit only ONE application for each student. The Selective High School Placement Test will be held on Thursday 4 May 2023.

Student Executive Leadership Projects

This term there are two exciting projects coming to our school:

1.       Participation in the B&B Highway Initiative – Through this university-led project Woy Woy South will host a native stingless beehive, be given flowers to plant, and receive an interactive education session for students. Our installation date is the 25th October. We are grateful to the P&C for funding this project.

2.       Year 6 Heroes – Red Cross Australia will deliver a day long age-appropriate First Aid Course to Year 6 students. Students will learn skills to help in an emergency including CPR, and will receive a Certificate of Completion. Students will go through in three separate groups on November 14th (Monday), 28th (Monday), and 29th (Tuesday). This inaugural year of Year 6 Heroes has been funded by the Rotary Club of Umina Beach with money bequeathed by their former Secretary, Mike Curley, who was a strong supporter of the project. The Club is assisting with fund raising for future years. We thank them.
