Term 2 - Week 6 (2 June 2022)

Dear St Mary's School Community

Values in Focus: Honesty

We tell the truth and act truthfully.

Gospel: Luke 24:46-53

Jesus and the disciples came together and as He spoke with them He was lifted up until a cloud covered Him. Suddenly two men in white were standing near them. “Why are you looking into the sky?” They said, “Jesus has been taken to heaven.”

Jesus calls every Christian to be His witness and to share His love with others. He does not only want those with special gifts or knowledge or training. He wants us all.

Pentecost Sunday

Pentecost Sunday is this Sunday, 5th June. It is when we remember the coming of the Holy Spirit that the Apostles and other followers of Jesus described in the book of Acts in the bible. Jesus had promised this would happen after he rose from the dead.

Our Year Six students, Archie Gethin, Tomas Kraske-Beck and Skye Wilson make their Confirmation on Sunday, 12th June at 10.30am at St Mary’s Parish. It would be wonderful to see as many families attend as possible to show their support.

Confirmation is as simple as the Holy Spirit, who is God, increasing our faith so that we have the certainty that He is with us until we arrive in heaven, for which He also gives us hope. During this Sacrament, the Holy Spirit strengthens our ability to love Him and others more deeply. The Holy Spirit gives us seven gifts to help us do that.

Faction Cross Country

Today our students from Pre-Primary to Year Six participated in the Annual Faction Cross Country. Although the weather started off a little chilly, I am pleased to say that all the students ran their best and displayed positive sportsmanship. Well done to MacKillop faction for winning the overall shield for the event. Individual results will be in next week's Bulletin.

PD Reminder

A reminder that tomorrow, Friday, 3rd June is a Pupil Free Day – there will be no school for students on this day. St Mary’s Staff will be meeting with St Joseph’s Staff from Southern Cross to engage in a Religious Education Professional Development Day.

WA Day

A reminder that Monday, 6th June is WA Day – Public holiday. There will be no school on this day. We look forward to seeing the students return to school on Tuesday, 7th June. A reminder that Pre-Kindy will be held on Friday, 10th June in lieu of this.

Life Link Day

On Wednesday, 8th June, St Mary’s School will be celebrating Life Link Day. Life Link supports people in our communities who are disadvantaged and provides them with services to improve their quality of life.

To raise money for this cause, St Mary’s School will be having a Pyjama Dress Up Day on Wednesday, 8th June for a gold coin donation. Students in Year Six will also be tuning into the online launch for Life Link Day. The whole school will gather in the hall at 11:00am to watch an informational video about how the raised funds are used:

Have a wonderful weekend!

Class News

Year Four/Five Class News

What a term we’ve had so far! We had a very short 3-day week to begin our term. Then, the Year Fives participated in NAPLAN during weeks 3 and 4. A number of our class members (including Miss Lynch) had to battle COVID this term. In between, we have covered a lot in our subject areas. Our class novel for this term is 'The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe'. Our focus for Writing is creating a ‘Defeating the Monster’ narrative. In Maths we are looking at multiplication and we are nearly ready to look at fractions. We have just finished our Pablo Picasso style paintings. We hope everyone has a great long weekend!

Free Dress Day

We would like to thank all the teachers and students for raising money for the Koalas. We really appreciate all your support. Together we raised $252.00. With that money the World Wildlife Fund can make two safe corridors and help to defend the forest to stop people from cutting down trees. We can also help koalas get vaccinations against a deadly virus. Without you we could not have made this day possible. Thank you!
