From the Principal

Dear Parents and Carers,

We survived Folkie and what a fantastic weekend it was! We were so blessed with sunshine (until the thunderstorm in the final hour), and a great variety of music.  It was wonderful to meet up with friends and family.

Thank you to the hard working Folk Festival BBQ Committee who put in many hours to once again provide a well organised, quality food outlet for festival goers.  It was my first experience of volunteering at the BBQ tent and I witnessed first hand how smoothly it all operates. It was a pleasure to be part of the fun, friendly atmosphere created by those involved.  I particularly want to thank Janette Lowe, Marcelle Hennig, Clare and Anthony Leddin, Bree Porter and Elle Seath for the many hours they put into organising the BBQ.

Thank you also to Janine in the office for supporting the committee and organising the onsite camping.  Thank you to Caroline McGowan and family for being the onsite night supervisors.

Finally, thank you to the many parents and friends who volunteered their time at the BBQ or supervising at the school's campsite.  It was a great team effort that will significantly benefits our St. Patrick's students.

I will in Horsham on Thursday and Friday of this week at Diocesan Principal meetings.  I want to wish everyone a HAPPY ST. PATRICK'S DAY!

Kind regards,

Olga Lyons, Principal

Building Project Update

Things are really taking shape on the building site this week.  It's now possible to imagine the areas and the size of the learning spaces.  We are expecting that brick layers will arrive soon to start bricking up around the foundations and roof trusses will be delivered in coming weeks.  Footings are being dug for the decking platforms.

Athletics Sports Day

Next Wednesday we are holding our Athletics Sports Day at Brauerander Park Athletics Track in Warrnambool.  Children will travel by bus to and from the venue. They will wear their sports shorts with a t-shirt in their house colour.  They can also wear their house colour socks, ribbons etc.

As it is on a Wednesday, the Foundation children will not be taking part. In the past this day has been very long and overwhelming for this year level, therefore, they will have their own athletics morning at school on Friday March 25 starting at 9:15am.  Please read the article below for details.

Parents/Grandparents attending Brauerander are asked to observe the activities from the viewing stand or around the oval perimeter and not enter the student assembly area.  The house groups will be assembled in the centre of the oval. If parents need to take their children directly from the venue they MUST inform their child's classroom teacher prior to leaving.

There won't be a canteen on the day but the Coffee Van will be there.  Please support this business to make it worth his while attending.

Foundation Athletics 2022

Next Friday, 25th March, in the St. Patrick’s School grounds, our Foundation students will participate in their 2022 Athletics competition.

Students have been practising for much of the term in preparation for their athletics day.  The events being undertaken on the day are sprints, hurdles, long jump, high jump, target throw, vortex throw, egg and spoon race, quoits and relay races.

Students will be representing their house. The students can wear their a t-shirt in their house colour with their sports shorts. Ribbons will be awarded for the first three place getters in each event and an overall Champion boy and Champion girl will be recognised based on all of their efforts for the day.

We would love to see as many parents and grandparents there as possible to support our little ones on the day.

The day will begin at 9.15am and conclude at around 10:30am.

Canteen

We are very excited about reopening the canteen!! Our first new look canteen day will be tomorrow, Friday 18th March. Orders for canteen can be made through CDF pay. Cut off for orders is 8.30am on the day. Don’t forget to send a clean container clearly marked with your child’s name and class that is large enough to fit your child’s order. NO LATE ORDERS WILL BE ACCEPTED.

There is a range of healthy and delicious options provided by Village Bakehouse. Thank you to all our volunteers who are giving up their time to run the canteen and provide this service to our families.

Coffee Van at Athletics Day

P & F have organised a coffee van to be at the Athletics Day on Wednesday 23rd March. The coffee van will be open from 11am. It will be selling coffee, cold drinks and treats. Please support this service on the day.

Easter Raffle

Our Easter Raffle will be coming up at the end of term so you can start bringing in all those yummy donations! The eggs can be left at the office with Janine and there are baskets around the school for the food donations of non-perishable items. This year our Easter Raffle profits will be facilitated by Mini Vinnies charity to support our school and Food Share.

Folky BBQ

A huge thank you to all the volunteers who helped out at this major fundraising event. It was very successful and we raised a lot of money.

Canteen

On Friday 18th March the canteen will re-open with a more extensive new look menu. This year the canteen will be outsourced to our, local bakery, The Village Bakehouse. While volunteers are still required to collect and distribute the food, outsourcing should make it a far less labour intensive task. Orders are now available to be placed via CDF pay. https://spportfairy.cdfpay.org.au/

The cut off for orders will strictly be at 8.30am on Friday mornings. Please ensure a clearly named empty container or lunch bag is packed, adequate enough to fit the order. For new parents to the school, students are instructed on lunch order mornings to place their empty lunch container in the classroom's lunch order tub. Classroom tubs contain tomato sauce for pastries and scissors to assist with opening the packaging. Due to the school's no rubbish policy, all wrappings and packaging are required to be taken home by the student.

I would like to thank outgoing Canteen Coordinator, Michelle Gapes for her years of service in this role.

Wannon Water Community Panel 2022

Wannon Water is hosting a Community Panel in April and May 2022 to discuss what projects and services are most important to deliver for our community over the next five years.

We are sharing this opportunity as it may be of interest to parents at your school. Each participant will be thanked for their contribution through a $350 gift card on completion of the panel events in May.

We’re looking for 12 customers reflective of our large service area to participate on our panel. The valuable input from the panel will be considered alongside technical reviews and broad customer engagement insights received between 2019 and 2021 to help us determine our activities, investments and prices for the 2023-28 Price Submission period.

How does it work?

The program will be delivered in four parts: three in-person events and one self-led online activity session.  Further detail on each part can be found in the panel topics outlined on our webpage.
