School Disco

This coming Thursday 30 March, the P&C host our first student disco for the year. Permission notes and money were due on Friday, however for this event, if you had not been able to pay by the deadline, the P&C are able to accept payment and seek signed permission on the night of the event.

The junior disco (K-2) will run between 4:45 – 6:00pm and the 3-6 disco will run between 6:30 - 8:00pm. The students are able to wear whatever comfortable clothes for dancing that they like, but just ensure appropriate choices and that they wear sensible closed in shoes. Bringing a labelled water bottle is also strongly encouraged so that they can takes sips during the event as they need to.

We ask all parents and carers not to arrive more than 10 minutes before the starting time for each disco and to please leave the school grounds after your child has been dropped off. Because responsibility for supervision lies with the school, younger or older siblings are unable to attend the disco, this event is just for students from our school.

Finally, if you are making arrangements for your child to be picked up by another family member or friend, could you please send a note explaining who you have authorised to collect your child.  Thanks again to our P&C for organising and coordinating the event – it should be a fun night for the students.

The Big Veggie Crunch

This coming week is also the Healthy Kids Association’s ‘Vegetable Week’. Did you know that in NSW, only 5% of children eat enough vegetables? Vegetable Week is being supported by our school canteen LPS Eats with some additional vegetable-based options joining the menu for this coming week. The aim of the week is to try and promote positive attitudes towards eating vegetables and improve children’s knowledge about why vegetables are so good for us.

As part of Vegetable Week’, we will also be participating in the ‘Big Veggie Crunch’ at 10:00am on Thursday 30 March. On Thursday, all students are encouraged to pack some cut up vegetables, in place of their regular fruit break, to crunch on at 10:00am on Thursday. Joining with other schools all over NSW, we hope to help break the record for the highest number of children eating vegetables simultaneously. Some simple examples of vegetables to crunch on include: carrot or celery sticks, pieces of capsicum, cherry tomatoes, snow peas or beans. There is further information, great resources and vegetable-based recipes on the Healthy Kids website if you would like to learn more. Why not consider using this week to have a few more vegetables on the plate at home too!

Have a great week.

Our school is once again participating in the NSW government reading initiative, the Premier’s Reading Challenge (PRC). This state-wide challenge closes on 18 August 2023.

It enables students to experience quality literature and fosters a love of reading. The PRC encourages students to engage with a range of exciting stories and explore topics that can challenge their thinking, expand their vocabulary and widen their horizons through unfamiliar subjects.

Students at LPS have been enthusiastically reading books at school and at home to meet the Premier’s Reading Challenge. Many students have already completed it. Well done!

Congratulations to the first 16 enthusiastic students to complete the PRC.

  • Kinder - Year 2  commencing at 4:45 pm
  • Years 3-6  commencing at 6:30pm.

How to buy tickets - Tickets and permission can be arranged at the door for those families that have not purchased tickets via School Bytes.

Canteen - The Canteen will not be operating for purchase of drinks or snacks during the disco. Parents and carers are advised to plan for students to have dinner at home either before or after their designated disco session. Collection of students - Students are to be collected by a known parent or carer. At the conclusion of each disco, the DJ with the support of the teachers, will have students collect their drink bottles then sit on the floor of the hall. Parents will enter through the door closest to the grass side of the Cola. Students will be instructed to stand and meet their parents at the rear of the hall once they have spotted them. Parents and their children should then exit from the hall via the doors located closest to the canteen (Door B). If you have arranged for a friend or relative to collect your child from the disco, please provide a note to the supervising teachers at the disco stating the name and relationship of the person collecting your child

Students in the Spotlight - 3L

3L have been inspired by Jimmy Pike’s artworks while studying Visual Arts this term. Jimmy Pike was one of Australia's most famous Indigenous artists. He was one of the first artists of the contemporary Indigenous art movement to use vibrant colour instead of traditional earthy tones. He was born in the Great Sandy Desert, south of the Fitzroy River in Western Australia and was a member of the Walmajarri people.

3L created their artworks by placing a symbol in the middle of the page. We then mimicked lines around the shape, over and over again, until we reached the edges of the page. Can you see our use of vibrant colours?
