Saturday 25th April is ANZAC Day, a very important day to Australians and to our history as a young nation. Unfortunately, the usual ceremonies and marches won’t be on this year but the occasion is still worthy of your thoughts. A number of classes have undertaken work throughout this week to remind students of the significance of ANZAC Day and to ensure that its significance is not diminished due to the social restrictions placed upon us by the coronavirus.
During this time of remote learning, not everything students do at home can be submitted online. Many tasks - across all levels - need to be completed the old-fashioned way using pen and paper. To help students submit any hard copy assessments, we have 'refurbished' some lockers to act as 'mailboxes'. Each year level has been allocated its very own slot. When students complete their work, they only need to come to school and drop it off. Teachers will be able to come and collect it later - social distancing at work!
From the beginning of this year we have been delivering The Resilience Project to students from Years F-10 as part of their weekly Health program. The Resilience Project delivers emotionally engaging programs and provides evidence-based, practical strategies to help build resilience. The key principles of The Resilience Project are Gratitude, Empathy and Mindfulness (GEM). In the challenging times we are experiencing in the face of COVID-19, these key principles of GEM are more important than ever. To help us all through this difficult time, The Resilience Project have developed TRP@Home - a platform that provides activities, resources and ideas to support the wellbeing of students and their families throughout this period of remote/online learning.
Last week, TRP@Home focused on Gratitude, which is paying attention to the things that we have right now, and not worrying about what we don't have. Many students - and parents - practiced this during the week by noticing the positives that exist around us. Thank you to those students who sent photos in during the week that showed them practicing Gratitude by addressing the GEM CHAT questions.
This week, the focus of TRP@Home is on Empathy, which is putting ourselves in the shoes of others to see and feel what they do. We practice empathy by being kind and compassionate towards other people. Check out the GEM CHAT questions relating to Empathy by clicking on the link to TRP@Home below.
If you are reading this, you obviously have access to the school newsletter. However, some families have asked how grandparents or community members can stay in touch with the school when they don't have access to Compass. The answer is that anyone can access the school's newsletter through the College website: www.nhillcollege.vic.edu.au. Please advise any family, friends or interested members of the wider community, that the newsletter is the main source of information from the school and that it is available to anyone who would like to read it. Spread the word!
Over the weekend the State Government extended the current State of Emergency until midnight 11 May 2020. This means that there has been an extension to the current enforcement of social distancing, isolation and other vital directions put in place by the Chief Health Officer.
There will continue to be only four reasons to leave your home: food and supplies, medical care and caregiving, exercise, and work or education.
This means that current arrangements are still in place .
We will continue to provide updates as information is updated and answer any questions you may have.
