2022- We’re up and Running!
It has been a fantastic start to the 2022 school year and our students have all settled into their new classes so well. We are so impressed with the seamless transition our newest students have made into kindergarten. It has been lovely also to welcome many new families into other grades as well.
As covid restrictions continue to ease, we are looking forward to slowly moving back towards pre-covid normality. Changes will be slow though as we ensure every activity we do minimises risks to students, staff and the wider community. Thank you for your patience and support with the ongoing changes.
In February we were very happy to meet with you for our Parent Information Sessions. We delivered these sessions through video conference and the recorded sessions are still on our website. If you would like to catch up on and of the sessions, you will find them here: https://woolooware-p.schools.nsw.gov.au/live-streams.html
Our teaching teams have created curriculum grids outlining the content being covered in each learning area this term. You will also find these on our website at https://woolooware-p.schools.nsw.gov.au/learning-at-our-school/curriculum-grids.html From Term 2, these will be available in the first weeks of each term.
Covid-Smart Learning
It is important that we continue to follow the guidelines laid out by the Department of Education and NSW Health. Please:
· Keep your child home from school when sick.
· Use the RAT kits to test your child if they develop any symptoms.
· Let us know if your child returns a positive RAT or PCR. Positive cases need to isolate at home for 7 days and can only return to school after this provided all symptoms have ceased.
· Keep siblings at home if there is a positive case in the home. Household contacts must isolate for 7 days also.
We do have access to remote learning packages for students isolating because they are household contacts. If children are sick they do not need to be completing work, but if they are able to engage in learning, we can support them to do that. Please let us know so we can give instructions on how to access remote learning options. Please be aware, that most of these activities are designed to be completed with minimal teacher support. Unlike when we were in lock down, our teachers are now delivering face-to-face learning and are not available to assist with home learning so we rely on parent and self-direction in most instances.
Parent Teacher Interviews
In weeks 8 and 9 (commencing Wednesday 16 March) you will have the opportunity to meet with your child/ren’s teacher/s to discuss how they have settled into school and plans for their learning and well-being this year. This term, all interviews will be via zoom. We will be using the online booking system for this again which will open later this week. More information and instructions for booking will be sent out via Skoolbag and email.
Zone Swimming
The zone swimming carnival was held last week. We had some excellent results, but for me the highlight was hearing about the sportsmanship and attitude of Woolooware students. This was even noticed and commented on by staff from other schools! Well done Woolooware!
Year 6 Gift
Our Year 6 class of 2021 generously donated $1000 to the school to purchase something for all of us. We have ordered two new portable gazebos to replace the old ones we have – these will be fantastic for all of our carnivals and outdoor events. We will post some photos when they arrive. – thank you Year 6!
Crossing Supervisor
We are very fortunate to have our wonderful crossing supervisor supporting students in the mornings and afternoons as they cross Wills Road. Unfortunately, the RMS are unable to staff a supervisor for Thursdays in the mornings and afternoons. We are reaching out to our community in the hope that someone may know a person suitable for the role. There is a screening and training process that must be completed and the successful applicant will then be employed by Transport for NSW for 1 hour in the mornings and an hour in the afternoons. Initially the position would be for Thursdays, but once trained, there could be scope to pick up additional hours. If you know someone that this may suit, please get in touch.
Respecting our Neighbours
Now we are able to have parents onsite for drop off and pick up, we ask that you park safely and respectfully. Please do not use the Franklin Road preschool carpark, this is for parents using the preschool only. Also please be careful not to not to block any of our neighbours’ driveways when parking. Thank you for your consideration.
P&C
Our P&C team have met once already and we had a very productive meeting. The next meeting will be on Monday 21 March at 7.00pm and this will be held onsite, yes – our first face-to-face meeting in a long time, in the staffroom. It will be the AGM, but don’t let that put you off coming. More information will be coming home soon.
At our last meeting, the P&C agreed to continue the model established in 2021 where one parent from each class assisted with communication. These parents act as a liaison, sharing information with parents and supporting any new families who enter the class throughout the year. Your class rep will probably reach out to you soon in order to establish communication channels for the year.
Our P&C committee have purchased bookmarks for each of our new kindergarten students and these have been handed out in library lessons this week. The children loved receiving this special memento of their start to school – Thank you P&C.
