Melrose Park Public School Newsletter

2022 Term 3 Week 10

Welcome to the final newsletter of Term 3. This term has been full of  great learning whilst managing sickness and the never ending wet weather. I give thanks to our wonderful staff who excel in their commitment and efforts to maintain a positive learning culture and outstanding learning programs every day.

I am so proud of every boy and girl in how they have tried their personal best this term, stretched themselves to grow as learners, used strategies for learning and sharing, and had a whole lot of fun along the way.

This Thursday 22 September 2022 has been confirmed as a public holiday in NSW, following the announcement of the National Day of Mourning for Queen Elizabeth II. All schools and offices will be non-operational. Students are not to attend school on this day.

We return to school on Monday 10 October wearing summer uniform and remembering all students need their school hat for outside activities.

Term 4 will be a busy term. Students will participate in dance sessions every Monday commencing Monday 10 October with our provider dance2bfit culminating in a dance concert in December.

Next term students from Year 2 upwards have the opportunity to participate in a 10 day learn to swim program.

I wish all our students, parents, carers and community members a happy and safe spring break.

Reflective learners

We encourage our students to be successful learners by promoting reflection in all areas of our curriculum.

Teachers and children sit together every term to discuss where they are in their learning. They decide where they are going next. They are supported with the success criteria and steps needed to get there.

The main processes that take place in reflective learning include:

Questioning enables a student, with the help of their teacher, to find out what level they are at.

The teacher provides feedback to each student about how to improve their learning.

Students understand what successful work looks like for each task they are doing.

Students become more independent in their learning, taking part in self assessment.

This week students look back on their learning and acknowledge their progress and enjoy their success of their efforts.

Learn to swim program

Thank you to the families who have signed their child up for the Department's 10 day Learn to Swim program. There are still vacancies for more students to be involved. The Learn to Swim program will be held during Week 7 and Week 8 of Term 4.

The swim lessons are conducted by the Department's Sports Unit. Whilst the lessons are free, the costs  cover entry into the pool and for buses to and from Kur-ring-gai Aquatic Centre.

If interested please contact the office for an EOI form.

PSSA Netball Premiers

We are SO proud of our Senior B netball team, undefeated throughout the season and winning the grand final 10-8 against Boronia Park PS.

On a very sunny spring day last Friday, the girls showed excellent sportsmanship, effort and team ethic to keep their winning streak, ending the season the way each and every game was played - with encouraging comments, smiles and great comradeship.

Thank you to all the parents who supported the girls, we had a fantastic cheer squad on Friday!

Dance Term 4

Dance2bfit is an energetic, innovative and fun way to get fit and funky with the latest dance styles to the hottest music tracks. This is a great program to improve the fitness levels of students while they are having a great time.

Dance2bfit will be preparing and teaching our students dance routines for our school concert. Students will learn a professionally choreographed dance routine suitable for their age and ability and will rehearse this item during the program.

This program has been included on the Semester 2 Student Invoice.

Survey Request from Infrastructure NSW

Dear Parents,

School Infrastructure NSW (SINSW) is a division of the NSW Department of Education responsible for managing how we plan, deliver, maintain, and share educational infrastructure. SINSW is committed to promoting sustainable methods of travel for students, parents, and staff to and from school.

SINSW have engaged a consultant to undertake a modes of travel study to understand how staff, students, parents, and carers usually travel to and from school to inform planning decisions. We would appreciate your assistance in completing a parent travel survey which aims to identify current travel choices and the modes of sustainable transport that could be promoted for existing and new students and parents.

The parent survey can be found at the following link: https://forms.office.com/Pages/ResponsePage.aspx?id=xNC-oldZc0-wwqgRQHWQ-9Wp8jSYMd9Hijg6ogsTUrBURUhPTVIySU1OUzYxOVVVNU8wUlVQS1RMMi4u

Thank you in advance for your assistance in this matter. The survey should only take 2-3 minutes of your time and will remain active until 23rd September 2022.

Jersey Day

Thank you to the students and staff who wore their favourite sporting jersey to school today.  Jersey Day was inspired by the gift of life that Nathan Gremmo (pictured) gave to six people when he became an organ donor at age 13. It is an opportunity to begin the conversation with your family and friends about the importance of becoming an organ and tissue donor. It’s important they know your wishes. https://www.jerseyday.com.au/

Assistant Principal and Friend of the Gremmo family
