Holy Trinity Primary Granville

Term 1 Week 8 - 18th March 2022

From the Leadership Team

Shauna Nash Acting Principal

Dear Parents, Carers and Children,

Yesterday was St Patricks day. St Patrick spent much of his life working to convert the people of Ireland to Christianity. On the 17 March each year we celebrate this day, as it is believed that this is the day that St Patrick the foremost Saint of Ireland died. Wearing green clothing and accessories along with a Shamrock is traditional on this day. it is believed that St Patrick used the symbol of the Shamrock to explain the Holy Trinity to the pagan Irish. Some of our students shared in the celebrations with Delany College yesterday as they celebrated 80 years of the college providing a quality catholic education across the Granville community.

Cross Country

The students were involved in a wonderful cross country run today. They had a great time running with the 8 - 10 year olds running 2kms and the 11 -12 year olds running 3kms. The Kinder's and Year 1’s had a great fun run to finish off the day.  Thank you to Mrs Ibrahim for her hard work organising the day and to the fantastic parent helpers Mrs Romanos, Dylan Romanos, Mrs Tomeh, Mrs Chen, Mr Nguyen and Mr Rajbhandari for your support. We really appreciate it.

Attendance

Why is attendance important? Everyday a child is away they miss out on valuable learning. It doesn’t take much for absences to add up. If a child has 2 days off a month they will miss 4 weeks of school each year. Over the 12 years of schooling they will miss a whole year of learning.

COVID Reminders

COVID RAT tests were handed out over the last couple of weeks. These were sent home for parents/carers to test children if they display COVID symptoms. As COVID numbers increase we all need to be diligent in keeping the whole community safe.

Year 6 Learning Day at Delany

All of Year 6 will be attending Delany Collage on Wednesday (March 23) for a Learning Day. The students will be participating in many different activities to have a taste of High School.

The students will be accompanied by Ms Arida. The children will come to school as normal and walk over to Delany as a class group.

Compass Parent Portal

Dear parents we have previously sent out information regarding Compass Parent Portal which is our new way to engage with our school community .

Some parents have already confirmed their login details, but if you have not done so please login in and change your temporary password so that you will be able to access the portal.

Refer to the attached sheet.

Notice required before moving students from school

10 school weeks in writing must be given to the principal before removal of a student or a full term’s fees will be payable.

This requirement is in recognition by the family of the commitment to assist funding of the School by having their child take a place that could have been offered to another family.

Religious Education News

Lenten Prayer

We continue to pray for communities affected by floods and heavy rains. We also fervently pray that peace be restored in nations of unrest and war.

Loving God, we thank you for the gift of our lives and of every person. We thank you for the wonder of all your creation. Through fasting, giving and prayer may this Lent draw us deeper into the warmth and light of God’s love. May we come closer to your heart, which you showed through the cross of Jesus. May we be full of hope for all future generations. We ask this in Jesus’ name.

Amen

Harmony Day

On Monday 21st March, we will be celebrating Harmony Day. Children are asked to dress in their traditional clothes and be prepared to share a story about their culture. Parents are welcome to join us at 9:00am for our morning assembly where students will have the opportunity to show their outfits and share their cultural experiences. In support of a more just world we ask that families donate money to Project Compassion.

Project Compassion (Caritas)

This year, Caritas has established the theme ‘A better world for all future generations’. The money we raise will help vulnerable communities around the world to:

  • Improve access to food and clean water

  • Support education and skills training

  • Help vulnerable communities to increase their income

  • Provide training in disaster risk reduction

Thank you to the parents who have already donated, we encourage all families to make a small donation toward this worthy cause. So far we have received kind donations of $155 but we would like to reach our goal of $500 for this worthy cause.

  • Take extra care when driving and parking around school zones.
  • Observe No Parking Signs: You have 2 minutes to drop-off or pick up. You must stay within 3 metres of your vehicle. Failure to observe these rules can get you a $191 fine and 2 demerit points.

Beat the Bell

Are you at school each day by 9 am and ready to start learning?  During this term we have been trying to encourage students to be at school before the bell each morning in order to start their learning on time.  As a result of this initiative, we will be having a competition to find the class with the most students on time each day.

Can you beat the bell?  Prizes will be awarded to the most successful classes.

Cultural Background

Holy Trinity is blessed to have so many families from such diverse cultural backgrounds. This diversity is to be celebrated. Over the next few weeks, we will be discussing with the students about their family cultural backgrounds and the languages that they hear family members speak and languages that the students are able to speak. This might be a good opportunity for you to discuss with your child about their rich cultural backgrounds.

School Hours

Many of our COVID guidelines for schools have been relaxed due to advice from the NSW government. We will now be returning to usual school hours.  Students need to be at school by 9am to begin their learning and dismissal will be at 3:10pm.  Over the last few weeks, we have been focusing on students being at school on time.  If your child arrives at school after 9am they will be marked as late on the class roll.
