TERM 3 - WEEKS 9 & 10

PRINCIPAL's MESSAGE

"TELL THEM FROM ME" - SURVEYS

YEARS 4 - 6 STUDENT SURVEY

Our school like many other state public schools, will participate in the DoE initiative - Tell Them From Me - Student Feedback Survey. The surveys measures factors that are known to affect academic achievement and student outcomes, with a focus on student wellbeing, engagement and teaching practices.

Earlier this year, Years 4 - 6 students completed the first survey. Asking our students to complete this survey twice in one year, allows the school to identify trends in student responses as well as track engagement and motivation throughout the school year.

The survey is a great way for our students to provide us with quick feedback on what they think about school life, how engaged they are within the school and the different ways that teachers interact with them. Capturing the voice of our students will help to improve how we do things at school. The survey is confidential and individual students cannot be identified. The survey will be administered online at the school and will take approximately 30 minutes to complete. Students in Year 4 – 6 will complete the survey at some stage during school time, from Monday 21 September - Friday 23 October 2020.

Permission is required for Years 4 – 6 students to participate. If you do not wish for your child to participate, please complete the Skoolbag e-form by Friday 18 September 2020. More information about the survey is available at: http://surveys.cese.nsw.gov.au

PARENT & CAREGIVER SURVEY

Parents and caregivers will also be given the opportunity to complete a “Parents in Learning” parent survey. Running this survey will help our school understand parent & caregiver perspectives on their child’s experience at school.

Your feedback will help our school make practical improvements. This survey is also confidential and should take approx. 15 minutes to complete.

Details, including a link to the survey will be forwarded on Skoolbag shortly.

Closing date for all parent surveys is Friday 23 October 2020.

TRAFFIC MANAGEMENT & SCHOOL SAFETY

Increasing concerns have been raised over past weeks about the number of parents & carers and grandparents who are not abiding by the road rules to ensure that our student, staff and parent community are safe when walking to and / or from school. Many parents continue to double park, make u-turns into the driveway or have even parked across the Kegworth Street driveway to drop of students, when pedestrians are out and about.

Last week, I had to speak to a grandparent who chose to double park across the road from the driveway, not only blocking the flow of traffic but leaving their car in that spot to collect their grandchild in the afternoon. If parents, caregivers and / or grandparents continue with this sort of dangerous behaviour, it will only increase the risk to others and will end up with someone being hurt or worse. Please, please abide by the surrounding school signage and general road rules to keep us all safe.

More recently contact has been made with the Inner West Council to discuss these concerns and to request support through regular ranger patrols to monitor and assist to ensure that no one's safety is compromised.

COVID - 19 GUIDELINES FOR SCHOOLS

We have been advised that NSW Health may be making changes to the current COVID guidelines, sometime around the beginning of October, providing that there are no increases of confirmed cases. At this stage, the Department of Education are not aware of what impact this will be for our schools and / or school operations going in to Term 4. No doubt more information will be made available after the holiday period once we return to school, where we will be able to advise you, hopefully of some really good news.

Keep safe and well,

Belinda Perih - Principal

STUDENT PREPARATIONS FOR 2021 - CURRENT KINDERGARTEN TO YEAR 5 ONLY

In order for our planning to be as accurate as possible, would you please complete the information available on our Skoolbag app. Please complete a separate form for each child. It would be appreciated if the e-form could be completed and returned no later than Wednesday 16 September 2020.

Thank you to the many parents & caregivers who have already responded. Currently we have approx. 50% of parents who have advised the school using the Skoolbag e-form.

If you have not already provided this information to the school, please complete by this Wednesday to avoid our office staff from having to contact you directly by phone to find out this information, before the end of this term.

SCHOOL PHOTOGRAPHS

The School Photographer will be coming to our school once again, this coming FRIDAY 18 SEPTEMBER  to take photos of the following groups:

- Class K-Green

- Class 4W

 - Junior and Senior Band Ensembles

All students are expected to wear their full winter school uniform to school on this day for their photograph. Students in classes K-Green and 4W will not need to bring any photo envelopes as a group photo only will be re-taken on this day  (no individual photos)

Junior and Senior Band Ensemble information:

- Band Ensemble students will be photographed with their regular ensemble, not their current rehearsal group.

- Band Ensemble students should bring their instrument on the day. Instruments should be stored in the music storeroom during the day.

- Band Ensemble students should wear their winter school uniform to school, and bring their white music T-shirt to change into for their music photograph. Please ensure all clothing is labelled.

- If you do not currently have a white Music T-shirt for your child, we will have some spare T-shirts available to use for the photos. Students can wear their regular school uniform when called to the photo and they will be given a Music T-shirt to borrow for the duration of the photo. All Music T-shirts have been washed prior to any use by students.

- Don't forget to pack a skort or pants for any students wearing their winter tunic to school.

ENROLMENTS FOR 2021

Kegworth is still accepting enrolment applications for any school aged children who are in our Kegworth local catchment area for 2021. If you are aware of any neighbour who has school aged children, please encourage them to put in an enrolment application form for next year. At this point in time, we are able to accept both local and non-local students.

Priority is always given to local student enrolment applications first, followed by non-local siblings and then any new non-local applications. Non-local applications must be supported with an accompanying letter advising the school as to the specific circumstances for requesting to enrol at Kegworth.

Enrolment application forms can now be completed online and are available in a number of languages via https://education.nsw.gov.au/public-schools/going-to-a-public-school/translated-documents/enrolment-application

TERM 3 - P - 6 STUDENT SCHOOL ACCOUNTS

All P – 6 Statement of Accounts (Student Invoices) have been emailed directly to all parents and caregivers who have provided the school with their current email address via the School Bytes finance program last week, Friday 28 August.

Parents and caregivers will see the inclusion of the 2020 Student payments in addition to any school based or extra-curricular programs. These accounts will be integrated with our Parent Online Payment (POP) system, making payments quicker and easier. Payments can still be made by cash, EFTPOS at the front Office. Please ensure that you check your email account (including junk mail) to receive this information. If you do not receive an email from the school, please do not hesitate to contact the school front office as soon as possible.

As always, parents and caregivers are requested to ensure that payments for upcoming school events are paid for by the due date advertised. It would be appreciated if term accounts are paid by the due date of Friday 18 September.

If in the event, parents and caregivers are experiencing any financial difficulties and / or you are unable to bring your child's account up to date, please contact Mandy Shepherd via the front office to discuss and arrange payment plan options.

If your child's student account in in arears for any school activity, including Band and String Ensemble fees or instrument hire from the beginning of the year, the school will be making direct phone contact with the relevant parents & caregivers to ensure that these payments are brought up to date before Term 4 begins.

LOST PROPERTY

Our lost property area has been overflowing over the past weeks with an influx of jumpers, hats and a number of lunchboxes, containers and  drink bottles. This week, any labelled items were delivered directly to students to take home.

We can appreciate how frustrating this must be for parents & caregivers, especially since you are unable to enter the school grounds to retrieve any lost items yourself.

To assist with this difficulty, on a weekly basis, as of next Monday 7 September, all lost property will be placed on tables just inside the main school entry gates on Tebbutt Street from 2:15 - 3:15pm. Parents & caregivers are encouraged to come and collect any items that may belong to you.

It is also a timely reminder for parents & caregivers to check and re-label all of your child's clothing and school items so that they can be easily returned should they be misplaced.
