Principal's Message

Student Newspaper - MIPS CLIPS

Earlier in the year, I met with our student leaders about plans for their year. Part of our pre-covid plans was to start up a student newspaper. Of course sadly like many things that needed to be put on hold as we focused on the pressing needs of the time. Recently I met with them again to revisit planning for that initiative. Today we are meeting again to get this initiative underway.

The 'paper' will be online for all students and will contain all the usual elements of a regular newspaper. This will be a great way for our students to share uplifting and important stories about our amazing students and their wonderful school.

With appreciation for your ongoing support,

Stephen Dowd

Year 6 Debating Team

On Thursday, 27th August, The Year 6 Debate team participated in their intra-school debate. The two topics for the debate were:

“Humans are the most dangerous creatures” and “Virtual education is more beneficial than in-class education”. Both teams presented incredibly strong arguments to support their point of view, and were confident in refuting their opponent’s arguments. We are looking forward to our next, and final, debate in Week 9.

Congratulations to all students in the Debating Team!

Year 6 Digital Technologies with Mr Maguire!

In Year Six we were lucky to have Mr Maguire, from the Catholic Education Diocese of Parramatta, spend time with us to teach us about coding. During the time Mr Maguire was here, we learned many things about algorithms and coding. We discovered many new terms and are now able to use these new skills to further enhance our journey of future innovations.

Some examples of terms we learned are algorithms, input, output, flowcharts, branching, iteration, variables and terminators. We used our new knowledge to solve problems with the coding application Scratch. We worked alongside our teachers who were learning as well!

Mr Maguire also taught us to reflect on our work and give feedback to our peers' work during our sessions. This allowed us to track our progress and take on feedback from others to improve.

Overall our time with Mr Maguire was a fun and enjoyable learning experience and it helped prepare us for the future of technology. We would like to thank Mr Maguire for sharing his knowledge with us.

Peer Support Week 7

In this week's Peer Support session the children will be exploring how to join groups and how to accept others into their friendship group. The activities will give the children a chance to practise these skills, as well as how to say no in a respectful way, cope with being told no and inviting others to join them. Encourage your child to discuss with you the importance of saying no to people in a respectful way so that they don't lose friends. Also discuss with your child various options they have at school if they should find themselves without anyone to play with during break time.

Fruit & Veg Month

In September at MIPS, students will take part in a Fruit & Veg break. The break will allow students to refuel on fruit, vegetables and hydrate with water during a set break in class , shaping their preference to healthy food options.

Parents and caregivers are asked to support the kids by remembering to include fruit and vegetables in lunch boxes.

UPDATE ON MASS ATTENDANCE:

As you are aware, we are limited to 100 people in the Church for  any liturgical celebration or at any one time.

DIRECTIVES: All people who are coming into the church are highly recommended to wear a mask as this is for your personal protection but also for protection of everybody else. We would describe it as an act of  fundamental charity. Please wear the masks to, during and after Mass. If you forget to bring a Mask these are available at the foyer of the church for  a donation of $1.00 each.

The four-square metre rule and 1.5m physical distancing requirements will continue to apply. As COVID-19 cases are escalating, we need to be very mindful of how we can eliminate risk. Due to the restrictions we encourage no  gathering outside the church before, during or after our services.

Please follow instructions upon entry to the Church.

1. If you are unwell, stay home as the dispensation from Sunday Mass is still current.

2. Use hand sanitizer available in the foyer of the church.

 3. When entering Church, sign in.

4. Sit in designated spots. Green Signs “Please Sit Here”.

5. Keep your distance when lining up for Holy Communion.

6. Before leaving the church please sanitize the place and area you were seated with the anti-bacterial wipes provided in the church.

Breach of any of these orders referenced under the Public Health Act is a criminal offence and can attract penalties.  As has occurred in some parishes, we expect police may conduct random inspections of places of worship  for COVID-19 safety compliance.

PLEASE HELP US KEEP OUR PARISHIONERS  AND VISITORS TO THE CHURCH SAFE.

THANK YOU FOR YOUR CONTINUED PRAYERS AND SUPPORT!

PRAYER FOR SPIRITUAL COMMUNION

My Jesus, I believe that you are truly present in the Most Blessed Sacrament. I love You above all things and I desire to possess You within my soul. Since I am unable at this moment to receive You sacramentally, come at least spiritually into my heart. I embrace You as being already there, and unite myself wholly to You. Never permit me to be separated from You. Amen.
