A FEW WORDS FROM THE PRINCIPAL

Dear Families,

Sports Day 2025

We have just completed another vibrant Sports Day, bringing together students, staff, and families to celebrate the spirit of teamwork, healthy competition, and fun. Our four house team: Wirra, Tirntu, Milte, and Tarni; competed with great enthusiasm across a range of activities and events. The day was filled with energy, laughter, and great sporting behaviour.

A heartfelt thank you goes to Mr Paul Besanko for leading and organising the sports day, with outstanding support from staff members Elaine Cram, Nick Marks, Emma Belshaw, and Karen Evans. Their contributions ensured the day ran smoothly and was enjoyed by all. Also thank you to our staff who started their day as early as 6:30am. Wonderful efforts!

A special thank you also to our fundraising coordinator Amy Wadsworth and the incredible parent volunteers who ran the BBQ throughout the day. Your efforts contributed greatly to the community spirit of the event.

Congratulations to the winners of this year's Sports Day Shields:

  • Sports Day Champions: Wirra, with Milte as Runners Up.
  • Fair Play Award: Tarni, with Milte as Runners Up

Thank you once again to every community member who attended, participated, and supported this wonderful event. We look forward to seeing you again next year!

Our Aboriginal Mural

We are thrilled to announce the completion of our mural project, a stunning visual representation of our school's journey together as a community. As described by artist Scott Rathman the artwork depicts:

Our journey to this place is part of the journey from here. The connections we make shape who we are and prepare us for what comes next. We find belonging through the people around us, through our connection to this place, and through the creativity that allows us to be ourselves. Together, we grow, share, and carry our experiences forward into the next part of our journey.

The mural embodies the thinking of our students and their journey through school life at Hallett Cove East PS. It is the theme of connection and belonging that binds us all to our school community.

A huge thank you to Scott Rathman and his team from Rusted Tin for the creativity, expertise, and generosity in sharing his knowledge throughout this project. His extraordinary artwork beautifully reflects our commitment to reconciliation and provides a meaningful representation of our school community.

We also extend a special thanks to our Year 4-6 students, whose ideas and contributions were instrumental in shaping the mural. Their perspectives make this artwork a collective symbol of our values and aspirations.

The mural is not just a piece of art—it is a celebration of our journey together, fostering belonging and unity for everyone who steps into our school. We are so proud to have it on display as a welcoming visual statement for all. Thank you to everyone who helped bring this inspiring project to life!

Soccer Presentations

I was really pleased to attend soccer presentations at the school last weekend. I was  impressed by the way our coaches and team managers spoke about the children both as athletes and positive team members, developing their skills on and off the pitch. Thank you to everyone who has made an important contribution to school sport this year!

I would like to take the opportunity to wish everybody a safe, happy and energising term three holidays. I hope it is a time to refresh, reconnect and recharge. We look forward to welcoming everyone back to school on Monday October 13th for an action-packed term 4.

With regards

Matthew Chapman

Principal

A FEW WORDS FROM THE DEPUTY PRINCIPAL

Dear families,

Supporting Early Years Literacy Development

This term, we have been fortunate to have the Literacy Coach from the Department for Education working alongside our Early Years teachers to strengthen literacy outcomes for our students. Together, they have been analysing the Phonics Screening Check (PSC) data and broader reading data to identify trends and pinpoint specific areas for growth. Using these insights, the focus has been on ensuring that any learning gaps are effectively addressed as we plan for Term 4. The collaboration has also centred on ensuring classroom practices reflect high-quality Tier 1 instruction for all students, while embedding strong Tier 2 intervention structures to provide additional support where needed. This partnership continues to build the capability of our teachers and helps drive positive outcomes for our youngest learners at Hallett Cove East Primary School.

PAT Testing 1-6

This term, our school has successfully completed PAT (Progressive Achievement Tests) assessments across Years 1–6. These nationally-recognised standardised tests are an important part of how we monitor and support student learning in Reading and Mathematics.

The PAT assessments provide valuable data about each student’s progress, strengths, and areas for growth. The results allow classroom teachers to identify specific teaching points and target support to help every child achieve their personal best. As a school, these insights also help us monitor whole-cohort trends and evaluate the effectiveness of our teaching programs.

It’s important to note that the PAT results are used alongside other assessments, observations, and feedback to build a holistic view of each student’s achievements and learning needs. Together, these tools enable us to personalise and improve learning outcomes for all students at Hallett Cove East Primary School.

If you have any questions about your child’s progress or would like to discuss their learning goals, please don’t hesitate to reach out to your child’s teacher.

Thank you for your ongoing support as we work together to ensure every student thrives in their education!

Term 3 at Hallett Cove East Primary School has been an incredibly busy and rewarding time, filled with engaging learning opportunities, exciting events, and collective achievements. We concluded this vibrant term on a high note with our much-anticipated Sports Day, bringing the entire school community together to celebrate teamwork, perseverance, and school spirit. What a fantastic way to wrap up a dynamic term!

Have a wonderful and safe holiday break and we will see you all in term 4!

Kind regards,

Robyn Physick

Deputy Principal

A FEW WORDS FROM OUR STUDENT WELLBEING LEADER

Wellbeing News – Term 3 Wrap Up

As we reach the end of Term 3, it’s a great time to reflect on the many wonderful ways our school community has connected and supported one another.

Bullying No Way Week

Earlier this term, students engaged in important discussions about kindness, respect, and inclusion as part of Bullying No Way Week. These conversations helped remind us all of the importance of standing together and using our voices to support others.

R U OK? Day

We also recognised R U OK? Day, where students learnt that wellbeing is everyone’s responsibility and that a simple conversation can make a big difference. Taking the time to ask “Are you okay?” and listening with care is a small act that can have a powerful impact.

Breakfast Club Pancake Treats

Breakfast Club had a sweet twist in Weeks 9 and 10, with pancakes generously provided by the Hallett Cove Uniting Church. Students enjoyed starting their mornings with warm pancakes and plenty of smiles. It was wonderful to see such a great turnout and the strong sense of community it created.

Year 6 Nature Nurturers & Bunnings Planting Day

Our Year 6 Nature Nurturers teamed up with Bunnings Reynella to freshen up the front gate area of our school. Together they planted a variety of native plants, which will grow to provide beauty, shade, and habitat for local wildlife. A big thank you to Bunnings Reynella for their support and to our student leaders for their enthusiasm and hard work.
