PRINCIPAL'S NEWS

Dear Parents

Friday, September 11th is a pupil free day for Rawlinson Primary School.

This is a really important day for teachers, as the school Parents and Citizens Association has recognised the amazing work being done by the Positive Behaviour Support team and have funded the professional learning for all staff run by Curtin University.  This program is called Aussie Optimism.  This is a whole of school approach to explicitly teach, promote and model respectful and positive relationships. It aims to provide a framework for staff to teach our children how to build healthy relationships, resilience and confidence.

Thank you to our hard working P & C for their continued support.

Speaking about hard work, what about the amazing Nature Play area that has been designed and built by our talented parents.  The P&C have been working at this project for over a year and a half now and the Phase 1 result is superb.  On the weekend we had over 65 parents and many students, at school on Saturday morning, to give up their time to weed, dig holes, mix cement, build a stage and spread wood chips.  The children are very excited to see this area develop into such an sensational place to play.  A special thank you needs to go out to Mrs Cavanagh and Mrs Lewis who have been the drivers behind this project.

Our Interschool Athletics Carnival will be in week 10, September 21st and 23rd.  There has been a lot of discussion as to how we can hold this event while still adhering to the Health Department and Education Department guidelines.  The following outlines the decisions made for this event.

Based on the latest health advice, Phase 4 of the WA COVID-19 roadmap has been extended until Friday, 23rd October.  This means schools are to continue to follow Phase 4 Operating Guidelines adhering to two square metres social distancing per person.

With approximately 650 competitors, 50 – 70 staff, ambulance officers and venue service operators, and allowing for at least one parent/caregiver per competitor, this means there could be close to 1,400 people in the one area.

To make sure we are following Phase 4 guidelines and ensuring your child’s safety our options were to either :

a)       Cancel the interschool under phase 4 guidelines or

b)      Host the interschool without parents/caregivers in attendance.

The Maguire Sports Association have met and decided that in the best interest of the student/s we will run the carnival but with no parent/caregiver spectators.  I know this is disappointing, but to adhere to the latest health advice this is a necessary requirement.  To accommodate this change and ensure no members of the general public are present, the carnival will also be moved to Anzac Terrace Primary School.

So parents do not totally miss out on the carnival we will have two photographers (one for events and one for podium).  These photos will be accessible through your child’s school; your school will notify you when these are available.  There will also be a dedicated staff member who will post event results on Facebook throughout the day.  The Facebook site is @MaguireSportsAssociation.  This will only happen on the Carnival Day (Wednesday 23rd September).  Results of the Jumps and Throws events (Monday 21st September) will be posted after the day has wrapped up.

We thank you for your understanding and cooperation; and hope that your child enjoys the opportunity to represent their school in this year’s carnival.

If you have any questions or concerns, please speak with either your school’s Sports Coordinator or Principal.

Kind regards

Darryl Dedman

P & C NEWS

THANK YOU

On behalf of the P&C we would like to extend a big thank you to all those who helped with the Busy Bee last Saturday.

The amount of people that helped either in the lead up or on the day was astounding.

Whether you weeded, helped build a stage, moved mulch, mixed cement, cooked sausages or delivered food it all helped towards completing the first section of the Nature Play area.

Watching everyone work together as a team really demonstrated the values we have here at Rawlinson Primary School.
