Principal`s Report

Leap Into Learning

This week was the start of the Leap Into Learning program run by Mrs Stretton. It is an 8 week transition for your children who are beginning kindergarten in 2020. Please advise Mrs Stretton or the front office if you require any assistance with this.

The program allows for your children to smoothly transition into kindergarten; gain familiarity with the school and staff as well as allow them some time for structured play in gross motor skills and basic pre-kindergarten skill acquisition.

Opportunity Class Orientation

We also had the Opportunity Class orientation this Monday which was well attended. Mrs Whitehouse and Mrs Calverley both ran the morning with Mrs Arnot for our new and existing students and families.

The Opportunity Class is for years 5 and 6 students who have sat an external assessment for entry. All applications begin in year 4.

Change of details for 2020

Please advise the school directly if you have changed address / home details to ensure that our school details are correct.

Alternately if you are not returning in 2020, we also would appreciate it if you could advise which school your child is attending (only for K-5 students).

Planetarium

Last week the school had a visit from Planetarium. This was the second year running and the children all seemed to enjoy the lessons. The school utilised school funds to ensure all children could attend this program, as we felt that this science and technology program was important for all children to participate in.

### We have also subsidised the cost of the School Swim scheme this year. The school is covering the costs of buses to and from the pool. Parents will be required to cover the pool entry.

The aim is to have as many children (eligible) attend as swimming is of most importance, whether at a neighbours pool or at the local swimming centre. We encourage parents of children eligible to be involved in this scheme. We also aim to have more children build up skills in order to compete in school swimming carnivals.

Other School News

Kindergarten News

What a busy start to the term we have had in Kindergarten.

Kinder Transition- Leap into Learning has started and we have some very excited new students visiting us each Thursday now until the end of term.

They are learning all about ‘Big School’ and what to expect when they come to Wyong next year.

If you know of any children starting school next year that haven’t already enrolled, it’s not too late. Enrolment forms are available at the office.

Kinder also had an out of space experience when we visited the planetarium last week.  We travelled to the moon and got to see the stars and planets up close. It was super exciting.

Don’t forget that in this warmer weather we need to pack our hats and plenty of drinking water.

There are lots of things happening this term, so keep looking on our website for updates and class dojo for teacher reminders.

Positive Behaviour for Learning in Term 4

Welcome back to Term 4, our favourite and busiest term of the year.

Last term the PBL staff team asked students if they would like to join a PBL student representative team. We had an overwhelming response and were so pleased to see so many of out Wyong students wanting to commit themselves to the PBL program. We have designated groups of these students to weekly lesson targets and will assist in developing PBL posters, movies and lessons with the support of our PBL teachers. We can’t wait to see what they will come up with and what great new ideas they will bring forward to help our school become an even more positive learning environment.

Upcoming PBL Targets:

Week 1: Student Data (from Term 3- review and reflect)

Week 2: Transitions (moving around our school)

PBL Coordinator, Mrs Carissa Brechney

Planetarium Visit

The whole school was very lucky this week to participate in the visit of Starr's Planetarium, with the knowledgeable Gary Starr teaching about the many wonders of the universe. Gary focused on a variety of subjects and detail to suit the different age groups and their current curriculum. It was easy to see that all the children thoroughly enjoyed the experience and learnt something new about the sun, moon, stars, planets, history of Earth and the possibilities for the future!

Thanks for visiting us Gary!

2020 school travel applications now open

Applications for student travel in 2020 opened on Friday, 11 October 2019.

Students progressing to year 3 and year 7 no longer need to re-apply if they:

·       are continuing at the same school

·       are residing at the same address

·       have not been sent an expiry notification from Transport for NSW.

Where a student meets the new distance eligibility, the system will automatically update their entitlement. If they do not meet the new eligibility, they will receive an expiry notification via email.

Students who have an entitlement approved under a medical condition which is due to expire will receive a notification advising them to re-apply.

Term Bus Pass holders will receive a notification to re-apply.

If students need to update their information or re-apply, they should go online to https://apps.transport.nsw.gov.au/ssts/updateDetails

Applications need to be submitted before 31 December 2019 to ensure student entitlements are updated and their current entitlement/card is not cancelled. If their application is submitted after 31 December 2019, the system will automatically cancel an entitlement/card and a new one will need to be issued.

Students in the Opal network applying for a SSTS or Term Bus Pass entitlement for the first time will receive their card at their nominated postal address. Cards will be mailed out from January 2020.

Students residing in Rural and Regional (R&R) areas should receive their travel pass at the commencement of the new school year from their nominated operator, this may be distributed via the school or sent direct to their address. Note: some R&R operators do not issue travel passes. Students/Parents should confirm with their nominated operator if they do not receive a pass.
