Latest COVID-19 Advice

Please click on the link below to visit the latest covid-19 advice from the Department Of Education.

https://education.nsw.gov.au/covid-19

Dear parents and carers,

I hope you and your family had a restful and enjoyable holiday period and are looking forward to the term ahead.

Thank you for your continued support in helping to keep our students, staff and community safe while COVID-19 is still circulating in the community. With winter approaching, we will also see an increase in respiratory illnesses and by working together, we will keep our school community healthy this term.

Our COVID-smart measures continue to be in place to help reduce the risk of transmission for students and staff members and are vital in allowing us to keep our schools operational while prioritising student and staff wellbeing. These measures include:

  • Staying home if unwell and test for COVID-19 if showing any symptoms

  • Boosted day cleaning of high-touch areas in our schools

  • Strongly encouraging masks to be worn by all students, staff and visitors, particularly when indoors or outdoors when physical distancing is difficult to maintain, and if exposed to COVID-19

  • Strongly encouraging up-to-date vaccinations for our staff and students, including COVID-19 booster shots for anyone eligible

  • Maintaining natural ventilation with windows and doors open whenever possible, including when cooling/heating systems are in use

  • Continuing to provide RATs and other hygiene products to schools free of charge.

Please continue to notify our school if your child tests positive to COVID-19 as we will continue to regularly notify the school community of any known positive cases, to prioritise student and staff safety and wellbeing. Although no longer mandatory, NSW Health recommends you register your result with Service NSWExternal link; this helps you to access medical support and advice from NSW Health, including antiviral medicines, if eligible.

For further information about the COVID-smart measures in place this term, refer to Advice for families.

Non-COVID-19 vaccinations reminder from NSW Health

Due to previous COVID-19 restrictions, NSW Health have noted that some children and young people have missed out on the non-COVID school-based vaccination programs that they would have otherwise taken part in. The department would like to remind parents and carers to make sure that all of their child’s vaccinations are up-to-date, including other non-COVID vaccinations. If you are unsure about whether your child has missed any vaccinations, speak to your GP or go to NSW Health’s Immunisation requirements in primary and secondary schoolsExternal link.

Parents and carers who have children with persistent or ongoing symptoms of COVID-19External link are encouraged to have these assessed by their local health care professional. These symptoms may be related to other illnesses that require treatment and management by a doctor.

For more information on vaccinations refer to Vaccination requirements for school sites or the Australian Governments COVID-19 vaccinesExternal link.

If you require more RAT tests please collect from the school office.

Kind regards

Term 2, Week 2

Principal's Report

I hope everyone had a wonderful Easter break. The students and staff at GPS have returned from the holidays energised and ready for learning!

On Monday 24 April, GPS teachers and SLSOs attended professional learning with other Goulburn and Queanbeyan network schools with a focus on Aboriginal Education. The day was spent improving our understanding of the ‘8 ways of learning’ and embedding Aboriginal culture into everyday teaching and learning practice.

Thank you to Joseph, Audrey and Harley who represented GPS at the Goulburn ANZAC Day March. You did a wonderful job paying tribute to the service men and women who have given their lives to keep Australia safe. Thank you to Mr White for attending on my behalf as I was unwell last week. We are hopeful that greater numbers of students will be invited to march next year.

I would like to wish all the mums and special people in our lives a lovely Mother’s Day next weekend and acknowledge the wonderful things you do. Thank you to the P&C for organising a High Tea on Friday 12 May- I look forward to seeing our families share their picnic together next week.

We have seen some really positive behaviour choices from all students in our first two weeks back at school- keep up the fantastic work!

School Attendance

In 2023, the NSW Department of Education has a major focus on student attendance at school. The ‘Every Day Counts’ campaign focuses on the importance of student attendance at school and how attendance supports academic, social, health and wellbeing outcomes of students.

At Goulburn Public School we want to work with our families to ensure all our students are known, valued and cared for and strive to be the best version of themselves. In 2023, our attendance team are monitoring student attendance and devising ways to encourage and support our students to attend school.

Staff will contact you if your child is absent via phone or letter. If your child is absent from school, please notify the school and provide a reason for their absence. If you have any questions or require support, please contact the school.

We look forward to seeing lots of wonderful colouring-in entries.

SkoolBag Update

We’re excited to announce that our school communication platform, Skoolbag, has upgraded, and will now be known as Audiri!

We understand that change can be challenging, but we want to reassure you that Audiri will still

provide you with all the important information and updates you're used to receiving. The only

difference is that the platform will have a new name and will be easier to use! Your user name and password will stay the same – the only thing you need to do is update the app on your phone when prompted by the app store.

We are confident that Audiri will improve our ability to communicate with you and enhance your experience with the school community.

What do parents have to do to upgrade to Audiri?

Parents will simply need to update their Skoolbag app – just open the app store on their device, go to the updates tab in the App Store, or the My apps & games tab in the Google Play store and select the update button. Simple! Audiri will publish regular in-app and email notifications to parents over the coming months, to advise that a change has occurred.

Athletics Carnival 2023

On Tuesday 4 April Goulburn Public School went to Hudson Oval to have our annual Athletics Carnival.

It was an amazing day where a lot of fun was had by all of our students and staff. The weather was amazing and I can’t remember the last time we had such a beautiful day where it wasn’t cold or windy!

The events ran smoothly and it was a pleasure to see everyone engaged participating in all of the events. A highlight of the day was seeing all of the students cheering each other on and wishing everyone to do well.

A special thanks to our P and C for the beautiful Barbeque that they put on and to Mulwaree High School for allowing us to have their beautiful students that were so helpful, respectful and friendly. They were willing to help with anything that was needed and did so with a smile on their face.

Lastly, a big thanks to all of our teachers for putting on a great day for the students! I look forward to seeing you all next year as we do it again.

Library Book Borrowing

To borrow books from the Library all students need a library bag. This is important to keep library books safe while travelling to and from school and from Lunch box mishaps. An recyclable shopping bag or pillowcase are some great options. Please make sure your child's name is clearly labelled on their library bag.

HEADLICE

Unfortunately we have had confirmed cases of head lice at our school. Could you please check your child’s hair and make sure you treat your their hair appropriately before returning them to school. Further information on head lice is available on the NSW Health website or through the Department's website:

Joke Of The Week!

From The Office

Administering Prescription Medication

When a medical practitioner has prescribed medication that must be administered during the school day, parents/carers must:

  • notify the school
  • provide up to date information as required
  • supply the medication and any 'consumables' necessary for its administration in a timely way.
  • Must be supplied in a blister/webster pack or original packaging with a prescription label attached.
  • Parents/carers of children who require prescribed medication to be

administered at school must complete a written request document.

Students must not carry medications and medications are to be delivered to the office by parents/carers or the chemists.

Non-prescribed medications

Schools generally don’t administer medication that hasn’t been requested for an individual student’s specific condition. In some cases the medical practitioner may not write a prescription for such medication because it may be available 'over the counter'. NSW Health advises that ‘over the counter’ medication may still be harmful and that schools should follow the same procedures for non-prescribed medications as for prescribed medications.

For further information, please contact the school office.

Update Your Details

Have you moved house? Do you have a new phone number or email address?

Please contact the school office to update any details that may have changed.

Visitor Check In

All parents/carers and visitors who enter the school grounds must check in at the front office. Please report to the office directly after entering the school gates and you will be issued with a visitors sticker to wear for the duration of your visit.  This is for the safety of all students and staff members.

If you wish to speak to a teacher, please contact the office and a time can be arranged for you.

Thank you for your co-operation.

Online Payments

There has been a bit of confusion when paying for certain events/activities/uniforms online.

The school events and activities are separate to the P&C run uniform shop.

If you are purchasing uniforms – this is to be paid to the P&C account – their details are on their price lists.

All other payments to the school for excursions/activities/sports etc are to be paid to the school account which the link is found on our school website.

https://goulburn-p.schools.nsw.gov.au/

then go to: MAKE A PAYMENT

There has been lots of mixed payments and it is making it difficult to reconcile accounts.  If you are unsure at all, please call the office on 48212827, and we can confirm for you.

We do not want any student to miss out on any activity due to payment not being received.
