Principal Message - Mrs M Kelly

Tell Them From Me parent feedback survey

This term, our school will be participating in the Partners in Learning parent survey, another part of the Tell Them From Me suite of surveys (student, teacher and parent surveys) on student engagement. The survey asks parents and carers questions about different factors that are known to impact on student wellbeing and engagement.

Running this survey will help our school understand parents’ and carers’ perspectives on their child’s experience at school. These include: communication between parents/carers and staff, activities and practices at home and parent/carer views on the school's support of learning and behaviour. This valuable feedback will help our school make practical improvements.

Detailed information including links to the survey information and access will be posted on our Skoolbag app and a paper copy sent home to each family.

Should you have any questions or concerns please do not hesitate to contact the school on 6676 2755

This week, 26th to 30 August is  School Administrative and Support staff Recognition Week.

Bogangar Public School would like to recognise and acknowledge the important work that our School Administrative and Support staff undertake in our school.

The work that Mrs Linda Ryan, Mrs Julie Pine, James Kiley, Ms Val Robinson, Mrs Bonnie Peet, Jenny Pryor, Judy Knight, Sandy Hammond, Jo Bowden, Kate Carpenter and Ben Lahiff do across our school, that is, in the office, library, classroom and school grounds is vital to our students and their education.

Be safe, Wear a Helmet

Dear parents and families,

As the weather is getting warmer, I’m sure many children and families will be spending time riding bikes together. It has come to our attention that some students are not wearing helmets when riding their bike to and from school or in the community.

This is just a friendly reminder that for the safety of all bike riders (adults and children) approved helmets must be securely fitted and fastened at all times when riding. Please be aware that this is also a NSW road safety law and there are no exemptions from wearing an approved bicycle helmet in NSW.

Please ensure your child has a properly fitted helmet and is using it when riding their bike. This would also be a great time to do a bike safety check.

For more information on how to choose a correctly fitted helmet or complete a bike safety check, please click on the following links.

Jump Rope for Heart kicks off this term!

Jump Rope for Heart kicks off this term!

Jump Rope for Heart is a fantastic physical activity and fundraising program that has been run by the Heart Foundation for 35 years. It’s a great way for your child to keep fit and learn new skills, but it also helps raise funds for vital heart research and education programs.

Since Jump Rope for Heart started in 1983, schools like ours have raised more than $75 million for the Heart Foundation’s lifesaving work.

It’s important you register your child online, so they can receive the full benefits of the program and participate in online fundraising, simply follow the link below to get started.

https://www.jumprope.org.au/fundraising/schools/bogangar-public-school or https://jumprope.heartfoundation.org.au/register

Students will be skipping at least 3 times a week in class PE lessons, during this time you can share their online fundraising page with family and friends to help raise money for this great cause.

We will hold our school Jump Off Day on Friday 20th September (Week 9) at 1:30pm, this will mark the end of the program and is a chance for everyone to come together to skip and show off their newly learned skills.

Thank you for supporting the Jump Rope for Heart program!

Plovers are back!

Yes, it's that time of the year.... Nesting season for plovers and unfortunately for BPS, plovers have chosen to once again nest on our bottom playground.

Every effort is being made to ensure students have access to play space however to keep our students at length of the plovers the nesting area has had to be roped off.

SNIPPETS OF WHAT'S BEEN HAPPENING AROUND BOGANGAR PUBLIC SCHOOL

BOOK PARADE

Thank you Bogangar Staff, Students, Parents and Community for all the effort you put into your costumes for our 2019 Book Parade. You all looked fabulous!

It was wonderful to see the whole school community get together to value and celebrate Australian children's literature through Book Week celebrations. We saw some amazing outfits and creations and even the teachers joined in on the fun!

We enjoyed singing, dancing, parading, reading, story sharing and artwork creations. We viewed a short listed book each day during recess and lunch and even had an author come and visit us on Thursday. The students had fun at lunchtime creating their Chalk Boy inspired chalk drawings.

There is way too much fun happening here at BPS! You can view a range of photos on our Instagram page, @bpschool.

Once again, Thank You to all the families that continue to support the education of our students and join in on the fun. Your contributions are always valued.

Start planning your costumes for next year.

Author Visit - Nette Hilton

On Thursday 22nd of August Bogangar School was lucky to have Nette Hilton visit K-4.

Nette is a famous author and has written many, many books which have been short-listed and award winners.  She has just released a new book, ‘The Second Adventures of Princess Peony’ which is available from Boardwalk Books in Kingscliff.

Please visit the website www.nettehilton.com.au and meet her for yourselves.

Last week 1 Frangipani learnt about 3D shapes.

What are 3 dimensional shapes?

Three Dimensions: The objects around you — the ones you can pick up, touch, and move around — are three-dimensional. These shapes have height, width and a third dimension, depth. Cubes, prisms, pyramids, spheres, cones, and cylinders are all examples of three-dimensional objects.

Three-dimensional shapes have many attributes such as corners (vertices), faces, and edges. The flat surfaces of the 3D shapes are called the faces. The line where two faces meet is called an edge.

Here are some photos of 1 Frangipani constructing their own 3D shapes.

K-2 The Twits Excursion

Do you remember the first time you experienced the magic of a live theatre show? Ask any playwright, actor or theatre maker and it’s often their early exposure to the theatre that had a profound effect on them. So with that in mind, last week students across K-2 got a little fancy and caught the bus down to Lismore City Hall for a day at the theatre!

To celebrate book week, the Northern Rivers Performing Arts group put on a production of Roald Dahl’s ‘The Twits’. The performance had the whole audience laughing at the super high energy combination of storytelling, puppetry and physical theatre.

Afterwards, K-2 had a picnic lunch at Heritage Park and talked about their favourite parts of the play.

It was a great, eye-opening experience for our students and we want to thank all our parents and guardians for supporting this excursion. Who knows – maybe the next big worldwide star will come from Bogangar Public School?

Mr Gurney
