Term 2 - Week 9

Principal Report

Goulburn Public School has had a very busy few weeks with lots of events taking place around the school. A huge thank you to our staff for their efforts in providing these opportunities for our students.

The school captains and I went to visit Angella Storrier Real Estate this week. Angella is a very kind and generous donor to our school. With her continued support, we are able to buy much needed supplies and resources that our students need. Thank you to Angella Storrier for her continued support!

On Tuesday we had our school athletics carnival. It was a fantastic day and the students enjoyed themselves immensely. A big thank you to our staff for braving the conditions, the P and C for feeding all of us and for those parents and carers who attended. I wish those competitors who have made it through to the District Athletics Carnival good luck.

There has been a spate of incidents on the bus involving vaping at the moment. The bus companies wish to advise that anyone caught with a vape on the bus or vaping will receive a one-week suspension from bus travel. It is a serious matter as vapes are illegal for students to have in their possession.

All visitors must report to the school office upon arrival at the school to sign in. Furthermore, if you would like to speak with a teacher, please see the office staff to arrange a time for a meeting. The mornings are particularly busy for staff who are organising and planning their day.

Our school has chosen its representatives for the Premiers Spelling Bee. This year they will be: Eve representing Stage 2, and Karim representing Stage 3. The event will be held online in Term 3 Weeks 7-8. These dates are between Aug 29 – Sep 9. More details will be coming closer to the date of the event for those students involved.

There has been cases of Respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) in the community . For symptoms and information regarding this virus, visit  https://www.health.nsw.gov.au/Infectious/factsheets/Pages/respiratory-syncytial-virus.aspx

Finally, I would like to say thank you to our school community for welcoming me into the role of Relieving Principal. It has been wonderful to see you all and to hear your words of encouragement and support. My door is always open if you have anything you would like to discuss.

Premier's Spelling Bee

Last Friday, students from Years 3-6 competed in the school rounds of the Premier’s Spelling Bee.

Well done to all who participated.

Some of the words were challenging and every student who got up in front of the microphone gave it their very best.

Congratulations to Eve and Karim who will compete in the Regional Finals in Weeks 7-8 Term 3.

Attendance

Parents of children from Kindergarten to Year 12 must ensure their children attend school every day. On occasion, your child may need to be absent from school.

Parents must provide an explanation for absences to the school within 7 days from the first day of any period of absence. Where an explanation has not been received within the 7-day timeframe, the school will record the absence as unjustified on the student's record. As part of school protocol you will be contacted by a staff member after two days of absence without explanation.

National Consistent Collection Of Data

Dear Parents and Carers

The Nationally Consistent Collection of Data on School Students with Disability (NCCD) is a process that all schools must complete on an annual basis. It is designed to count the number of students who receive additional adjustments or "help" at school because of a disability. This national data collection helps federal and state governments plan for the needs of students with disability. It is also the way that schools seek and receive funding to support the learning needs of their students.

Who is included in the data collection?

To include a student in the NCCD collection, schools must consider some key questions:

1. Is the student receiving adjustments to assist them with their ability to participate in schooling on the same basis as their peers?

2. Does the student meet the NCCD's broad definition of disability?

3. Has this school discussed the adjustments(help) with the student and/or parent/carer/ guardian?

4. Does the school have documentation (assessments, medical reports or other paperwork) about the student's functional needs, the adjustments (help) that they provided and how the student progressed overtime?

Where the school decides that the four steps above are in place (i.e. the student meets the NCCD criteria), the school then decides the best disability category and how much help (adjustment level) that the student is provided with.

What happens to the data? Is it confidential?

All schools must complete the NCCD. Each school is required to verify and submit data about students with disabilities in their school during August of each year. The privacy and confidentiality of all students and their families is respected and handled as per the school's Privacy Policy and Collection Notice. Please refer to your schools' policies for further information.

Do schools require active consent from parents to include students in NCCD?

Amendments were made to the Australian Education Act 2013 and subsequent regulations. As such, schools do not require parents/carers/guardians to provide active consent for students to be included in the NCCD nor is there an option for parents/carers/guardians to request their child not be included (e.g. an opt-out option.)

Where can I access more information? Please contact us if you have further questions about the NCCD. Additionally, the following link to the national NCCD Portal may be helpful https://www.nccd.edu.au/
