Attendance
I want to thank you for your ongoing support in ensuring students are at school every day on time.
Pelican Flat Public School is now sitting above the state average and other schools in our network for attendance. This is a huge success and you should all be so proud!
Missing a day here or there may not seem like much but absences add up and can impact your child’s learning more than you think. When your child misses one day a week over a year, that’s 40 days of school, 8 weeks of lessons and 2.5 years over their school life lost. As your child’s education has already been interrupted through periods of learning from home due to COVID-19 over the last 2 and a half years, now is the time to prioritise face-to-face learning and making the most of every school day.
We want to do all we can to be sure your child achieves their potential and enjoys being in school. One way we can help make this happen is to be sure your child attends school each day unless they are sick, have symptoms or are absent for a justified reason.
Protecting the wellbeing of our students through the reporting and monitoring of student absences is the responsibility of both parents/carers and schools. Notifying the school either before or on the day that your child is away helps us keep accurate student attendance records to support you and your child.
We know that school is the best place to learn and regular attendance means students can stay on top of their schoolwork and get the most out of their learning. If you are having trouble getting your child to school every day or on time, please talk to our school staff so we can work together, because every day counts.
Clean up Schools Day
Congratulations to all Pelican Flat Pubic School students for their fantastic efforts on Clean Up Schools Day. Thank you to Mrs Waters for organising.
Sentral Parent Portal
Thank you to all the parents who have registered on the Sentral Parent Portal. For those who have not registered please do so as soon as possible as the School will be using this online platform for communication with your child's teacher, important notices and absence notifications. If you require an access key or need help registering please call the office on 4971 1543.
Curriculum Chat
Over the next few weeks and into Term 2 you will find a short article called “Curriculum Chat”. This will give you some inside knowledge on language that is used in the new Kindergarten – Year 2 syllabus. It is amazing what our students are learning and taking on board. Please have a read!
NAPLAN
NAPLAN for Years 3 and 5 begins this week.
Teachers have been supporting our students in preparation for these assessments. The NAPLAN assessment window runs from Wednesday 15th March to Friday 24th March.
Please discuss with your child and let them know that this is one assessment on one day, there should be no pressure and all they need to do is ‘do their very best’.
NAPLAN provides the school with valuable information about the students’ strengths and is used to guide schools about where teaching needs to be targeted for continuous improvement in literacy and numeracy.
If your child is absent on the day of the assessment, they will be provided with the opportunity to complete a make-up assessment upon their return to school if it lies within dates of the assessment window as outlined above.
We look forward to celebrating the growth and success of our students.
Mrs Leanne King
Proud Principal of Pelican Flat Public School
Well done to the following students on receiving awards at the assembly last week. You make us so proud with how hard you work and how you demonstrate out care, share, learn values.
Last week, we held a special assembly to present our students with their ribbons for the swimming carnival held at the end of last year. We were pleased to have a strong representation at the zone swimming event and are exited to have a student attending regional swimming tomorrow for the first time in many years. We wish Milla all the best in her challenge tomorrow at regionals.
Please see our Facebook page for photos later this week.
