Term 4 Week 3: 24th - 28th October 2022

Principal's Blog

Welcome to Term 4 Week 2

Welcome back to Term 4 2022!  As always, this term will be packed full of activities for our students with some additional events happening for our Year 6 students as they raise money for their Year 6 farewell and their school gift. Their first, Crazy Hair Day took place last Friday. I have never seen so many amazing hair creations and Year 6 raised $373!

Our Year 5 students will also be called upon to participate in some important activities in preparation for their Year 6 year at Caves Beach PS. Nominations for School Captains and School Vice Captains will take place this week and our 2023 Kindergarten buddy program will begin.

This week we have several students attending Bandfest with our Junior and Senior Bands competing in their respective divisions on Wednesday 19th October and the Mallet group competing on Friday 21st October. We wish them all well and know they will do us proud.

Kindergarten Orientation

Last week our Kindergarten 2023 interviews began. This is an additional layer in our Kindergarten Orientation process to ensure a smooth transition for all students. On Wednesday 26th October we begin the first of our three Kindergarten Orientation sessions. We invite all parents who have Kindergarten children starting at Caves Beach PS next year to come along and engage in this important school information session.

Semester 2 Reports

This term teachers will be conducting assessments in readiness for our end of year reports that are scheduled for distribution in Week 10. These reports will provide a thorough overview of student progress for Semester 2 2022.

School Enrolments

We have begun to plan class structures for 2023. Thank you to those parents who have let us know their plans for next year. This information is vital to class planning and will help with a smooth transition into classes next year. If you have a Kindergarten child starting in 2023 and are yet to enrol please contact our school office immediately to ensure you and your child are included in all the Orientation sessions taking place this term.

Last day of Term 4 is Friday 16 December 2022

As we near the end of the year, I want to thank you for your ongoing support and notify you of a date change for the last day of Term 4 classes. Students will now finish school on Friday 16 December 2022.

This is due to an additional School Development Day announced for staff across NSW public schools.

School Development Days allow our staff to participate in professional learning that was put on hold due to COVID-19 staffing pressures and plan for 2023 to ensure we meet the needs of our students.

With this change, we ask that you arrange alternative care for your child on Monday 19 December.

Class of the Week

5/6E

We have had a very busy Semester in 5/6E. We are loving he novel study of the book Boy Overboard by Morris Gleitzman, looking into all the characters and themes.  We have even started the Sequel Girl Underground and are really enjoying it too.

As a class we are working through a variety of Maths problems and enjoy finding real life scenarios where the maths we learn can be used to help us in life.

We have enjoyed creating some wonderful art pieces in class this year, exploring different textures and media with oil pastels, paint and pencils.

We are getting ready for the end of year push and continue to work really well together as the year comes to a close.

Wakakirri 2022

Congratulations to our Wakakirri group for their amazing story-dance video performance - ‘Caves Coastal Revival’. They were awarded the NATIONAL STORY AWARD - for excellence in performing arts and raising awareness about Environment!

Wakakirri is Australia’s largest performing arts event for schools with over 180 taking part in 2022. Participating schools are inspired by the Wakakirri ethos ‘great stories inspire change’ to create and perform story-dances that reflect students’ thoughts, ideas and aspirations.

Tell Them From Me Survey - Parent's Survey

Our school will be participating in the Partners in Learning parent survey, another part of the Tell Them From Me suite of surveys (student, teacher and parent surveys) on student engagement. The survey asks parents and carers questions about different factors that are known to impact on student wellbeing and engagement.

Running this survey will help our school understand parents’ and carers’ perspectives on their child’s experience at school. These include: communication between parents/carers and staff, activities and practices at home and parent/carer views on the school's support of learning and behaviour. This valuable feedback will help our school make practical improvements.

The survey is conducted entirely online on smartphones, iPads, tablets, laptops or computers. The survey will typically take 15 minutes or less to complete and is completely confidential. The parent survey will be conducted over Term 3 and early Term 4. Although participating in the survey is entirely voluntary, your responses are very much appreciated.

information about the survey is available at: education.nsw.gov.au/ttfm. To access the survey for our school go to: http://nsw.tellthemfromme.com/rkpxy

The survey is available in 23 languages.

Grow Your Mind

Another strength you can grow is HELPFULNESS.

Being helpful means to think of ways we can be of benefit in the

classroom, on the playground or at home.

When we show HELPFULNESS we use our SENSITIVE OCTOPUS and

WISE OWL. This strength is important for our mental health because we feel rewarded and happy when we help someone.

You can display HELPFULNESS by:

  • looking for opportunities to be useful; for example holding the door open for someone if they are carrying something
  • not waiting to be asked to help; such as lending a pencil to a friend if they have forgotten theirs

Set yourself a ‘Be of Benefit’ challenge today!

Band Update Week 3

Bandfest

Last week the Junior and Senior bands traveled to Warners Bay Theatre to perform at Bandfest. Both bands represented our school with pride and performed their hearts out on the big stage! Although we didn't come away with a winner's certificate, the bands played as rehearsed and rose to the occasion. To say I felt proud is an understatement! Congratulations to all students who attended and spent many hours rehearsing to play so beautifully, band really is a team sport, and this shone through last week.

A massive thank you to all parents for the assistance with transport for Bandfest and for the ongoing support to our school's wonderful band program, it would not happen without you all.

And a final thank you to Miss Lawson and Mrs Thurston for helping with organisation and attending Bandfest this year. It is truly wonderful to be back out in the community performing!

Family Band Night Change

Unfortunately Family Band Night has been postponed until next Monday 31/10 (week 4).   Students are welcome to wear Halloween themed clothing. Many thanks and apologies for any inconvenience.

Changes to Band Rehearsals for Term 4

Looking forward for the remainder of the year, the band will undergo some changes to accommodate a new beginner program trial period and see junior members transition to senior band. To cater for the needs of our current members of junior and senior band we will combine the groups one day a week to form a large band and still rehearse separately each week as well. If you have any questions regarding this, please email. If your child has recently joined the junior band, they may prefer to stay in the new beginner band on Tuesday for the remainder of this term, please contact me for further details if required.

Band rehearsals for the rest of the term are as follows:

 Week 3

 No band Tuesday and Wednesday

 Junior Band - Thursday - 8.15am

Senior Band - Friday - 8am

Week 4

 Junior band - Thursday only - 8.15am

No senior band or assembly performance this week

 Week 5 - Week 9

Tuesday - new beginner band rehearsal

Wednesday - Combined Junior and Senior Band - 8am

Thursday - Junior Band - 8.15am

Friday - Senior Band - 8am

New Band Members - Beginner Band

From week 5 a new beginner program will run for students interested in joining the Caves Beach Band program for 2023. This is open to students in year 1 to 5 in 2022. A note will be available from Wednesday this week, they will be distributed to class teachers to hand to interested students and need to be returned over the next few weeks, there will be a special collection box in the music room.

All information regarding fees, instrument hire and private lessons will be included in this note.

Music tutors

It is your responsibility to let tutors know if you are going to be absent for a scheduled lesson each week.

It is a requirement that your child receive instrument tutor lessons to be in band, though this can be accessed outside of school hours by any music tutor provider. If you would like more information on accessing tutors outside of school hours, please email me.

Uniform Shop – TERM 4 OPENING HOURS

We will be reopening the School Uniform Shop on site for Term 4 2022 – on Wednesday mornings from 8:45am – 9:30am.  This is mainly to assist our new Kindy families with planning their uniform needs – but all families are welcome!

Price Increase

Our Uniform Suppliers have passed on a number of price increases in the past 2 years which we avoided passing on to our families.  However, with a further price rise we have reviewed all prices and there are some changes to come into effect from Term 4 2022.

There is some good news to go with this – we have negotiated a price DROP for our sport shirts so they will actually reduce in price!!

Our school uniform range is still great value and we are significantly cheaper than other retailers on comparable items – eg. our school polos will be $30 from Term 4 whilst Lowes are selling them for $39.

To Order Uniforms

Place your order via the Qkr! App (quick, simple & our preferred option)

**You can link a credit card or debit card to the Qkr! App

If you need an order form to order/pay via direct deposit OR have ANY questions regarding uniforms prior to ordering - please let us know via email and we are happy to help! cavesuniformshop@gmail.com

If your uniforms are too big/too small, please email us and let us know - we can arrange an exchange to ensure that you have the right ones.
