Christ the King North Rocks Newsletter

Term 3 Week 4: Friday 12th August, 2022.

Message from the Principal

Dear Parents,

This weekends’ readings are about life. They are about putting our trust in God from whom our life comes. We are part of nature, and we know that we need to break through to communion with God if we are to experience the life for which we long. No matter our age and life-experience, we reach for the light, we want to break through into life, we don’t want to be trapped or bogged down. If we are to break through to a freedom in which we can receive and give love, we need two things- Love and discipline. If our heart is going to learn to love, we cannot afford to let it give in to any passing whim or fleeting desire. If our mind is ever going to learn to think well, we will have to stop opening it to all the sights and sounds in the ether and learn to discipline ourselves to acquire habits of thinking that will liberate us by training and refining our capacity to create what is truly worthwhile. -Fr Michael Fullen

Last Friday we celebrated our biggest community day of the year- Grandparents Day. After a three-year hiatus it was great to see our students celebrating the love they have for their grandparents and the role they play in their lives through our liturgy and morning tea. Thanks to our parents who assisted for our grandparents to attend the celebrations. Your efforts were appreciated by our staff and students. Thanks to our students, teachers, our school band and “Cuppa Crew” who all contributed to our morning’s celebration. Thanks to Mrs Wynne for her organisation and passion in co-ordinating the day over the last few weeks. A special thanks also to Mrs Cassar who shared her reflections and love on being a grandparent. Congratulations and thanks to all concerned. A great day!

Please keep in your prayers the stage three children in our parish and school communities who are preparing with their families for the sacrament of Confirmation over the next few weeks. This is a most significant time in the lives of our young men and women as they are fully initiated into the church community and have bestowed upon the gifts of the Holy Spirit. The sacrament of Confirmation will be celebrated on Wednesday 21st and Thursday 22nd September.

The upcoming swimming programme will commence on MONDAY 22ND AUGUST and conclude on FRIDAY 2ND SEPTEMBER

The children from Kindergarten to Year 4 involved in the swimming program will attend Hills Sports High School Seven Hills.  On the first day of the program, all students’ abilities will be assessed in a safe way by the instructors.  They will then participate at their own ability and progress through levels as they acquire skills and knowledge over the two-week programme. The program caters for all swimming abilities.  Children are actively engaged for the whole swimming session. All students are expected to participate in the programme irrespective of their swimming ability. Students who do not take part in the programme will attend the session with their class and sit with their teachers on the pool deck each day.

Congratulations to all our students who represented CTK at the Zone Athletics carnival on Wednesday. All athletes competing did our school proud with many of them achieving PBs on the day. Thanks to Mrs Kelly-Hosking who was our team manager, and to all the parents who supported our children throughout the day. A special congratulations to Nicholas Klamer Snr Boys Age Champion and Callan Moutzouris U/11s Age Runner up for 2022. Well done boys!

Since returning to school this term I have noticed students chewing gum. Neither bubble or chewing gum are permitted at school as it is often spat on the ground and walked into carpets in the classrooms. Your support in speaking to your children about this matter will be greatly appreciated.

Have a great week

Principal

Answers to a few questions we have been asked:

  • Is the swim scheme compulsory?  Some of the parents have flagged that due to covid, their children have some anxieties around the water and their skill set may not be up to scratch. Some parents have flagged that if the scheme isn’t compulsory, they would prefer not to send the kiddos.
  •

Yes, the swimming program is compulsory.  Last year at our swimming carnival, we noticed that due to COVID, a lot of our students had stopped going to swimming lessons and as a result of this their swimming confidence and abilities suffered.  This program was put into place to help our students get their confidence in the water back.

  • Are there options for students who do not participate in the swim program?
  • If your child does not participate in the swim program, they will still travel to the swim centre with their grade and sit out for the duration of the lesson.

  • Will the children be assisted with drying themselves (in particular hair) as there are concerns the children will get sick if their hair is left wet or they are wet and potentially may not be picked up until late from COSHC?

  • When students return to school after their session, they will change back into their school clothing.  Girls and boys will be separated and will be assisted if required.

    •  Will the children be assisted with goggles and swim caps as some haven’t put them on before or are not confident putting them on?

Yes, the children will be helped with their goggles and swim caps

    •         Will the children mostly be at the centre the whole day? Is there an expectation that, if they arrive early, parents will have to pick the kiddos up early as this may not be an option for all parents

Each day is a normal school day.  The table above shows what the schedule is for your child’s grade each day

  • Is the pool heated?
  •         Yes, all pools are heated 28-32 degrees.

     Are there showers for rinsing?

Yes, there are rinse-off showers (warm) on each pool deck (time permitting)

    •         Is the list of things the children should bring comprehensive, or are there other items the children should bring, parents should pack?

Students must bring with them the following items each day in addition to their normal school items:-  Dressed in sports uniform with a swimming costume underneath each day.

    - A swim cover-up / poncho towel / long sleeved t-shirt or track suit jacket (to wear over cosies to and from the pool)- A small bag to carry their items to and from the pool on the bus.- A towel that fits inside their small bag.- A change of underwear for after swimming.- Thongs/sandals to be worn at the swimming pool.- Goggles

    -  Swimming Cap and talcum powder (for cap)

    -  PLEASE NOTE: Goggles & swimming cap are optional but highly recommended

    -  PLEASE LABEL EVERYTHING WITH YOUR CHILD’S NAME

The children will change at school to ensure school clothing does not get misplaced at the swim centre and also to avoid delays.  Please label all clothing clearly.

We are getting closer and closer to the YEAR 6 graduation and once again calling on our amazing community to help raise money to give our students the best possible and most memorable send-off we can.

Please ensure to place your orders in quickly.  Also, remember to share it with all your family and friends.

    Finance update

School Fee Statements have been posted from our Head Office and are due for payment on or before 24 August 2022 unless you are under an arrangement.  If you have not received your statement please contact the school office.

Year 6 visiting our nation's capital - Parliament and Civics Education Rebate (PACER)

Year 6 students from our school have recently undertaken an education tour of the national capital. Students were given the opportunity to participate in a variety of educational programs with a focus on Australia's history, culture, heritage and democracy.

The Australian Government recognises the importance of all young Australians being able to visit the national capital as part of their Civics and Citizenship education. To assist families in meeting the cost of the excursion the Australian Government is contributing funding of $30 per student under the Parliament and Civics Education Rebate program towards these costs. The rebate is paid directly to the school upon completion of the excursion.

    Parish News

    Parish Survey

    Parish Survey closes 21st August

One of the aims of CTK Parish is to encourage families to connect to the church community and provide a place where our youth can feel safe to explore their faith. One way that we have previously done this is to facilitate a youth group. The Parish Council is investigating whether a youth group of students, aged 10 to 14, which is formed and supported by the parents and the wider community at CTK might be beneficial again.

As a council we value your opinions and support and so are asking you to complete this short form so that we can garner your thoughts on running a youth group at CTK.

    Christ the King Parish Masses

Daily Masses have commenced each Wednesday at 9am, Thursday at 9am, Friday at 9.15am and Saturday at 9am. Please note there will be no Tuesday evening Masses until further notice. Weekend Masses have commenced with the Vigil Mass on Saturday at 5.30pm and continue on Sunday at 8am and 10am.

Masks are no longer mandatory for places of worship. However, masks are still strongly encouraged where you cannot maintain a safe distance from others.
