From the Principal

Dear Parents and Carers,

Welcome back to Term 2.  I hope everyone had a lovely Easter and found time to enjoy the pleasant Autumn weather.  Some of you may have travelled away for the first time in way too long.

It was wonderful to see everyone's faces without masks on Tuesday as I went around the classes to welcome the children back.

There are some COVID regulations changes outlined in this newsletter.

Kind regards,

Olga Lyons, Principal

COVID Update

The Victorian Government has announced some important changes to COVID Safe measures for schools that will apply from the start of Term 2.

Face masks

From 11:59 pm Friday 22 April, face masks, while recommended, are not required in any school setting. This means students in grades 3 to 6, staff and visitors in primary schools are no longer required to wear face masks. Any student or staff member who wishes to wear a mask may do so, including those who are medically at risk.

Screening requirements

Students who have tested positive for COVID-19, and have completed their 7-day isolation period, now do not need to undertake rapid antigen test (RAT) screening for 12 weeks after their release from isolation. This was previously 8 weeks.

Household contacts

Students who are household contacts of a COVID-19 case are not required to quarantine. They may return to school as long as they undertake a Rapid Antigen Tests (RAT) 5 times during their 7-day period. They are required to notify the school that they are a household contact.

Students aged 8 years and above who are household contacts are required to wear face masks when indoors at school unless they have a valid exemption.

If a student household contact returns a positive RAT result, they must isolate for 7 days and inform the school.

Vaccination requirements for visitors to schools

Parents, carers and other adult visitors (not performing paid work or working in close proximity to students) are no longer required to show evidence of two doses of COVID-19 vaccine.

RAT screening program reminder

The testing recommendations will remain the same this Term for students and staff (test at home twice a week).

Notification of Positive Cases at School

Parents and carers will be notified of positive cases in their child/children’s classroom.

Thank you for your ongoing support in keeping our school safe and open.

Building Project Update

Plenty of progress was made during the holiday break.  Window and door frames were installed, the bricking was completed, the adjoining corridor and toilet block roof received a new roof, the courtyard at the back of the library was concreted and the electrical cables were laid for the new control panel.  As well, new NBN fibro optic cables were installed.

NAPLAN 2022

The NAPLAN testing period for 2022 will be Tuesday 10th May to Friday 20th May. Students in Years 3 and 5 will take part in tests on Writing, Reading, Conventions of Language (spelling and punctuation) and Numeracy. This year all tests apart from Year 3 Writing, will be conducted online. St Patrick’s School has been preparing for this transition to online testing since October last year.

Some parents of students in Years 3 and 5 will be contacted during week 1 of next term regarding any adjustments that may need to be made to assist their child’s participation in NAPLAN.

In the meantime, you are invited to use the following link to visit the NAPLAN Public Demonstration Site where you can view a sample test for each of the learning areas covered. You can work through these with your child to help with their familiarisation to the test format. This will also be used at school prior to the NAPLAN testing period.
