From the Leadership Team

Welcome to 2021

It has been wonderful to have our 2021 Dernancourt community return in the last 2 weeks.  We have welcomed the sound of voices and laughter of our 350 learners and 55 staff into the buildings and look forward to the the time when we are  able to have families return too.

As we begin our school year, we continue to be influenced by COVID restrictions, and this year we are also learning about Fruit Fly! We will ensure that we keep community updated of any changes.

Meet and Greet

Our staff are aware of how important it is to establish strong family connections as we support your child to learn and grow. In place of our usual Acquaintance Night, we will be having a Meet & Greet. We would like you to see your child's learning space and for us all to be able to match a face to the names and people we all hear so much about.

To ensure that our event is Covid compliant and we are able to maintain social distancing, we will be offering two sessions per learning space. One adult (parent/caregiver) per household is invited to attend a 20 minute session in each of our classrooms. These sessions will enable you to introduce yourself to your child's new class teacher(s) and clarify any questions you may have from the handouts that will be sent home prior to Monday night's event.

To ensure numbers and spacing are correct, each session will be capped (depending on class size). Unfortunately children cannot be part of these sessions this year - we ask that you leave children at home or in OSHC. Please click on the link below to register for a session.

We look forward to having you back on site for this event...we have missed you!

These sessions are general information sharing. If you are unable to attend and have any questions, please contact the teacher via email or phone message.

We will offer 1:1 parent -teacher connection meetings in week 8 of this term.

Welcome

New Staff

We would like to extend a warm Dernancourt welcome to our new staff members. We are excited to have them join our team, and are looking forward to working and learning with them.

Jackie Theodorou - J2

Hi my name is Jackie Theodorou. I have been teaching for 5 years. I will be teaching J2 this year. I look forward to working with my class and their families in helping my students succeed in their learning. I enjoy spending time with my family/friends and planning for my wedding when I'm at home. I look forward to getting to know the community at Dernancourt.

Izzy Moore - J7

Hello my name is Izzy Moore. I will be working on a Wednesday in J7 this year. I will also be working in P6 and J7 on Fridays. I am looking forward to taking on these roles and getting to know the students and families in both classes. I also work at OSHC and through this role I work with a lot of different families from the Dernancourt community.

Sarah Addle - P4

Hello everybody my name is Sarah Addle. I am new to Dernancourt this year and I am covering P4 for term 1 while Guy Barbara is on Long Service Leave. Having worked in the disability care sector for a number of years before becoming a teacher, my values as a teacher lie in differentiation, inclusivity and equality for every student. Before becoming a teacher I also studied creative writing, and therefore have a passion for English and genre writing, which I hope to also ignite in students. As someone who never enjoyed or was very skilled at Maths throughout my schooling, my personal goal for this year is to ensure that my students find a love for learning Maths that they can take with them on the rest of their learning years. (It's now one of my favourite subjects).

I am excited for all the highlights that term 1 at Dernancourt has to offer and have found everyone in the school community to be welcoming and kind.

Karen Bell - P10

Hello my name is Karen Bell and I'm excited to be teaching at Dernancourt School R-7 this year. I have been teaching for 28 years and I'm looking forward to teaching my year 4/5 students this year in P10. This term and throughout the year I will foster a fun, rich and inspiring learning environment while building positive working relationships with all students and families. In years 4/5 I aim for students to develop their capacity to be responsible for their own learning, and in doing so, strive to achieve their personal best.

Dale Morton - P12

Hi everyone - I have joined Dernancourt School R-7 in 2021 as one of the Year 6/7 teachers.  After working in many classrooms in differing roles during 2020, I will be focused on ensuring my students grow and learn in readiness for their transition to high school. As 2021 will be the only year to have two year levels graduating, I along with Meredith McCade, Emma Salini and Amy Faquharson will be highlighting the uniqueness of this cohort. Prior to teaching I studied design, have previously lectured at TAFE and am a qualified jeweller. This helps me bring a wealth of knowledge around hands on learning and practical applications of learning.  I have a partner, a 12 year old son and a dog named Smithy.  On the weekends I can often be seen at garage sales, flea markets, record shops, book stores and the Art Gallery of South Australia.

Amy Farquharson - P14

Hello, my name is Amy Farquharson. I am very excited to be teaching at Dernancourt School R-7 this year. This is my seventh year of teaching. I love what I do because it is rewarding, challenging, and there is always something new to learn. Outside of school I enjoy listening to music and podcasts, spending time in the garden, and being creative through craft, drawing or cooking. I am looking forward to learning more about the Dernancourt School community and thank everyone for their friendly welcome so far.

Jacinta Robinson

My name is Mrs Robinson. I am very happy to be here at Dernancourt School R-7. I trained as  a Primary  Teacher and will be here each day  teaching in a range of classrooms. I look forward to meeting you in your classroom or in the school yard and hope that we all have a great 2021!

Chantal Rainsford - Learning Support

Hi, my name is Chantal Rainsford and I am very excited to be at Dernancourt School R-7. I will be working on  Tuesdays in Learning Support. I have taught in Primary, Secondary and Special Needs Schools and currently work two days a week in another school as the Wellbeing Teacher.

My husband and I have two children, Xavier who is 10 and Maddie who is 8 and an adventurous dog called Holly. I am really looking forward to getting to know the staff and students at Dernancourt and working with them throughout the year.

Josh Butler - SSO

Hi, I have been volunteering at Dernancourt School R-7 as an SSO as of term 4 last year, as well as working in the OHSC during school holidays. I have started working full time now as an SSO and loving the job and the schools friendly, inclusive environment. Before volunteering or having anything to do with education, I was working in the field of logistics, warehousing, forkllifting and general labouring.

I definitely understand how essential and beneficial one on on help can be at this early age of learning, and am enjoying bringing that understanding to my work.
