Dear Families,
A warm welcome back to Term 4.
We have had a great start to our whole-school ‘Active Bodies, Active Minds’ Connected Curriculum and we are looking forward to a great term ahead. Thank you for your continued support as we monitor current SA situations and apply and lift restrictions around COVID in line with our Department guidelines. We have seen an ongoing increase in student attendance and it is great to have nearly all students arriving in time for the start of learning at 8.50am.
Key events that will go ahead this term incorporating COVID safe plans will be :
- Our annual End of Year Concert
- Children’s ‘Be Active’ themed P.E. week
- Year 7 Graduation
- and an array of active end of year excursions
Uniform
As we’ve commenced Term 4, a friendly reminder that hats are now compulsory for all students. For safety, students are sent to the Courtyard to ‘stay in the shade’ if they do not bring or cannot find their hats. Staff are also reminding students in regards to key uniform requirements. Our Uniform Policy was updated in conjunction with our whole-school community in 2019 and we appreciate all families supporting us to enforce this.
Some key reminders include:
- No dyed hair or nail varnish
- Socks should be navy, white or black
- Sandals must be safe and in line with our school policy.
We attach a copy of our school Uniform policy for families.
Thanks for having your say!
A big thank you to all the families who undertook our annual school survey. We were delighted to have over 130 responses and this information will be used to evaluate success and shape our site strategic priorities and actions. Feedback is an important part of improvement and we value all family opinions. If you have any specific feedback about any of the work we do here at school please contact school directly as per our site parent feedback procedures. It is important that issues are not presented on social media platforms, as this can impact indirectly on staff and businesses who have insufficient opportunity to act and respond to your feedback. Thank you for maintaining a respectful and supportive community - it’s something we truly value here at West Lakes.
Sea Star Development
We are impressed with the renovations of our Sea Star unit and whilst we await our new ‘pop of colour’ sensory walk hallway floor arriving from the UK (delayed due to COVID), the staff and students are beginning to move back in. Spaces are being designed with the theme of ‘the environment as the third teacher’. We will use these units for our new Reception transition sessions on Friday week 2, Friday week 4 and Wednesday of week 9.
2021 enrolments
Alongside our Reception students, in 2021 we have several new students joining us in Years 1-7. As we create class structures to accommodate these new students we strongly encourage any families who are considering enrolling their child for 2021 to get in touch as soon as possible. It also supports us if we can to know if your child will be leaving.
Have a safe weekend
Carol, Helen and Fay
