Welcome back
Thank you for my very warm welcome to Kalannie Primary School. I feel very fortunate at having this opportunity to be the Principal at KPS whilst Ms Chown is on her very well deserved long service leave. I have met many of you already and for those I am yet to meet, I look forward to catching up with you soon, maybe at our first assembly and learning journey followed by our P&C barbeque and AGM.
Students
Our students have all settled in well to their new classes and it has been an absolute pleasure chatting with each of them. Kalannie PS is certainly a lovely community school where all students, young and older, interact positively and look after each other.
Swimming lessons
Students all enjoyed their swimming lessons and it was great to see how they progressed (some even passed two levels) and how they coped with double lessons each day. I am sure they were very tired by the end of the week.
Term Dates, public holidays and School Development Days
Public holidays this term: Monday, 6th March (Labour day).
Term 1 finishes on Thursday, 6th April with Good Friday on the 7th April.
Term 2 begins for students on Wednesday, 26th April after ANZAC day. There are two school development days in Term 2 with the first being on Monday 24th April and the second being Friday, 2nd June.
NAPLAN PRACTICE
This week, we will have a practice session which will be to check our devices and headphones are working well and to provide students, particularly our Year 3s who are sitting NAPLAN for the first time, to become familiar with the online assessment environment. This practice test does not collect data and or use any identifiable information. Students will be given practice login passwords etc.
Parent Information Sessions
Class teachers sent out notes with various times for different year levels. This does not include Kindy. We hope to see you all tomorrow.
School Board AGM Tuesday 28th February 6pm
Everyone is invited to attend our Annual General Meeting at school. An Agenda will be shared prior to the meeting.
Did you know that there is research that shows kindness has health benefits?
- improved happiness
- good mental health
- a stronger immune system
- reduced anxiety, stress and depression
- improved relationships
- a longer life (www.healthdirect.gov.au/acts-of-kindness-and-compassion)
Research also shows that the happiness people get from giving to others creates a ‘positive feedback loop’. The more you give, the more positive you feel. This, in turn, fuels greater happiness. We have therefore decided to highlight kindness this Friday which is a day which celebrates random acts of kindness with various activities. You may like to talk to your child or children about a few ideas about how they could show kindness on Friday. Whilst there will be a few organised activities, it would be great that many were random and unexpected. If you would like to read further about this day or would like some ideas for home or school: www.randomactsofkindness.org
Whilst we all know many people who continually show kindness and give so freely of their time and expertise to support others, I would like to take this opportunity to share that our wonderful P&C were acknowledged on Friday night at the Thank a Volunteer event hosted by our CRC where a certificate of recognition was presented on behalf of the Hon Stephen Dawson MLC, Minister for Emergency Services, Innovation and ICT and Volunteering, recognising the outstanding contribution these wonderful parents and carers make for our school community. Well done and thank you to all. You are amazing individuals and role models for our students and future community members and leaders.
Contact with School
A reminder that parents are asked to please not message staff on social media or private phone numbers regarding school matters. Messages received via these avenues will go unanswered. Can parents please also refrain from approaching teachers at social events in the community to discuss school related issues.
Parents are asked to call the Office on 9666 2400 or email kalannie.ps@education.wa.edu.au for any messages. Teachers can also be emailed directly on their work email addresses which are included in the Newsletters. Your support in this matter is very much appreciated.
On days the Office is unattended, emails to the school address are still checked frequently with important messages passed on the staff who remain at school.
