Wingham Public School Bulletin

Term 1 Week 11

PRINCIPALS MESSAGE

It’s hard to believe that we have come to the end of an extremely busy first term. We have participated in some exciting experiences including welcoming new Kindergarten students, Cross Country and swimming carnivals, Young Leaders forum and the Got It program. Students have also been busy in the classrooms learning new skills and completing stimulating units of work.

We also had the wonderful opportunity to work with you, our parents and carers. I would like to thank everyone for your continued commitment to Wingham Public School.

Last week I informed parents and carers of students in 2Y of the imminent departure of Mrs Yanez. Mrs Yanez will be leaving us to take up the position of AP C&I at Tuncurry Public School. Mrs Yanez has been a member of staff for the last 8 years. She is a highly valued member of staff, loved by all students and staff. We wish Mrs Yanez every success in her new role. She will be missed at our school.

I hope all staff, students, parents and carers have an extremely safe and Happy Easter. We look forward to seeing everyone back here on Wednesday 26th April.

OPPORTUNITY CLASS FOR YEAR 5 2024

Opportunity classes are for primary school students who have high academic potential or who are intellectually gifted.

They provide an environment where students can learn and make friends with classmates of similar ability. This can benefit a student’s academic progress and wellbeing.

Opportunity classes are offered in Years 5 and 6, with parents/carers applying in Year 4.

Students successfully placed at Aurora College attend their local public school and join the opportunity class for science, technology and mathematics lessons using an online conferencing system.

Students from non-government schools who are successfully placed will need to enrol in a public school on the list mentioned above, if they reside in the catchment area. Further information about the Aurora opportunity class is available at: https://aurora.schools.nsw.gov.au/learning/primary-school.html

A Year 5 virtual opportunity class at Aurora College is available for students in rural and remote NSW who will be attending authorised host schools in 2024.

How to apply

Parents/carers apply online between Thursday 30 March and Monday 15 May 2023 at: https://education.nsw.gov.au/oc

SCHOOL PHOTOS

MSP Photography have advised the closing date for photo orders is Wednesday 12th April.

MUSICA VIVA

Musica Viva ensembles have some of Australia’s best musicians.  We are very much looking forward to the show on Monday May 8th in the school hall where we will be entertained by a performance of music and acrobatics. Notes have been sent home this week.  Please return permission slip as soon as possible.

HUNTER HOCKEY

It has been a big few weeks in regards to sport at Wingham Public for both individual and team sports.

Congratulations to Milla Thompson who competed at the Hunter Hockey Trials last Friday. She played extremely well and has been selected as the reserve for the Hunter team who will compete at the State Championships. Well done Milla on a great achievement.

BUDERUS 7'S

Last Thursday the Opens and Under 10’s rugby league teams travelled to Forster to compete at the Buderus 7’s competition. All students played fantastically showing great flair in attack and strong tackles in defence as well as constantly displaying great sportsmanship. As a result, our school won both divisions. This is a great achievement and all students are to be commended for their efforts. A special thank you to all the parents who came to support and help on the day. Your efforts are much appreciated.

CROSS COUNTRY

Last Friday we had our school cross country. All students are to be congratulated on the way they competed and displayed house spirit. Congratulations to the students who qualified for the zone carnival which will be held early next term. A special mention to Ruby, Coby and Noah Godfrey all three siblings won their respective races which is a huge achievement completing the Godfrey trifecta. A presentation assembly will be held early next term. Thank you to all the parents and carers who came along to support the students on the day.
