Issue 17 - Term 2, Week 8 - Monday 17th June 2019

A Message from the Principal

 ‘In the Spotlight’ Dance Festival

Good luck to our Years 1-2 dance group and our Years 3-6 dance group on your performances this week at ‘In the Spotlight’ dance festival. Thank you to Miss Borg and Mrs Webb for taking your own time to rehearse and support our dancers. Hammondville are very proud of you all.

Casual Teachers

As you can all appreciate coming into the cooler months, sickness can be quite high within schools. We have had a large number of staff getting sick over the last few weeks and have needed to split classes. While we endeavour to cover classes with casual teachers, there is currently a shortage of available casual staff and staffing classes can be extremely difficult. We just want you to be aware that this shortage is across all schools and is beyond our control so please be understanding when the need to split classes arises.

Acknowledgement to Country Workshop

Thank you to Miss Harrison and Aunty Carol Brown for working with our Aboriginal students and Stage 3 leaders to create our own Acknowledgement to Country. We have a new personalised Acknowledgement for our school. Come along to one of our assemblies and check it out, or visit our Facebook page and check it out.

Public Speaking

Good luck to all our finalists who will be representing Hammondville at the Public Speaking Competition on Wednesday. Good luck and speak your heart out.

Have a wonderful week of learning!

Our school office hours are 8:30am to 3:15pm.

EFTPOS Payments can be made between 8:45am - 9:00am and 2:30pm - 3:00pm.

Student Absences

The Education Act requires that a reason is provided to the school within 5 days of the occurrence of a student absence.

If your child is absent from school please notify us via Skoolbag or drop a note/medical certificate in our secure letterbox on the outside of the office wall. Do not send absent notifications to the class teacher via Class Dojo.

Late Arrival/ Early Departure

All students who are late to school must come via the office to receive a late pass, which is then to be handed to their teacher.

If you are picking up your child early from school you must visit the office first to receive an early departure pass, which you then give to your child’s teacher.

 Toileting Accidents

If your child is prone to toileting accidents please ensure that spare underwear and school clothes are kept in their bags.

If your child does borrow clothes from our school please ensure the clothes are washed and promptly returned to the office.

Due to severe allergies of some students at Hammondville Public School, we do recommend that parents not send their children to school with nut products, eg muesli bars, peanut butter, nutella etc.

All payments to the P&C must be CASH ONLY and in a separate envelope to school payments.

Attention Defence Families

Registration to attend The Younger Heroes camps are OPEN so register now for your spot!  Camp dates are:

4-7 July - UKI (Northern NSW)

11-14 July - SYDNEY

19-21 July - SYDNEY

Remember - these dates coincide with local school holidays so there is no missing school. The Younger Heroes camps are 3 night, 4 day (unless cautioned otherwise) experience. We camp out in nature focusing on improving resilience, enhancing communication and improving teamwork within a current or ex-serving member (parent) of the ADF and their child/ren. We do this with a selection of activities such as trekking, fun bush skills, and time around the camp fire!

The Younger Heroes covers the cost of the camp however we do ask that participants pay a (refundable) deposit of $300 per family to secure their position.  This fee is can be reimbursed upon completion of camp or donated to The Younger Heroes to help offset costs.  If you are experiencing financial difficulty, pleas contact us as we have means to assist through the very generous support of Veterans Sports Australia https://veteran.org.au/
