Term 3 Week 3

Principal's Message

Greetings parents and carers

We have recently received some feedback about our school's communication. This is an area we have been working on with the aim being to streamline how we communicate to our school community. At present our school has the following main avenues of communication in place:

REASON FOR COMMUNICATIONWHERE TO FIND INFORMATION
General information, updates and reminders for school events and activitiesSkoolBag
Specific event information requiring a payment and/or a signatureSchool Bytes

General information, updates and reminders for school events and activities. Notification of student absences

NOTE: This communication avenue is being pared back to student absences only

Sentral parent portal (also sends to parent/carer emails)
Showcase of student learning and school events/activities

Weekly newsletter

Community feedback on the use of School Bytes has been positive. SkoolBag was introduced this term and will eventually take the place of the Sentral parent portal for general dissemnation of information. Many of our parents and carers have downloaded the SkoolBag app and created an account. If you require any assistance with this, please see the flyer included in this newsletter, or call our friendly office staff on 4957 1511 and they will provide with with support.

Resource Smart Schools Program

Our new recycling program is underway!

In Term 2 New Lambton Public School was accepted to participate in the Resource Smart Schools Program run by Newcastle City Council. As a result, our school will start a recycling program next week (Week 4).

Our school shall begin to recycle hard plastics, glass and aluminium in the classroom and playground. This new recycling program, alongside our existing paper and cardboard recycling should help our school community reduce the amount of waste going to landfill each day. We have also received a new worm farm to support composting and fertilisation of our garden beds.

Time to get recycling NLPS!

NSWPSSA Primary Football Competition

Hanna M and Olive H have been representing our region at the NSWPSSA Primary Football competition. We are looking forward to getting a sports wrap from the girls about how their team went. Well done!

Basketball Gala Day

Teams have been selected and will compete at the NSWPSSA Knockout Gala Day at Broadmeadow Basketball Stadium on Tuesday 9 August. Good luck to our boys and girls teams.

That's a wrap!

Premier's Reading Challenge

The Premier’s Reading Challenge is closing on Friday 19 August

All students in Kindergarten, Year 1 and Year 2 have completed the challenge at school with the support of their classroom teacher.

Students in Years 3-6 are encouraged to complete the challenge independently. They must read and record 15 identified PRC books and five choice books by the closing date. Students can log their reading record onto the Premier’s Reading Challenge website. If your child is unsure of their login, please remind them it is the same username and password that they use at school.

If your child has forgotten their login details or has difficultly entering their books online, please direct them to bring their reading record to Mrs Williamson or Mrs Burgess and we will assist them to record their books in our library.

Looking forward to another successful year of students at NLPS completing the challenge!
