It's a wrap...

Flipping through the pages of our freshly printed and delivered 2022 Balmain Public School Yearbook, as well as scrolling through the grid on our Instagram page, has brought many smiles, as well as a few tears, to my face. We've been so fortunate this year to have so many pre-COVID events back! It's been another memorable, jam-packed year at BPS!

It's time to say a few special, heartfelt goodbyes to:

  • our Year 6 students, whose ink has now completely dried on their primary school chapter and, with poised pen in hand (or perhaps device), are commencing to write their next one
  • our leaving students throughout the other years, who have also walked out of our gates for the very last time and embarking on new schools (with some in new states and countries)
  • our outgoing parents and carers, who have put in so much time and effort, making this school an amazing place to be
  • our staff members - Ms Renae Bonney (K-2 relieving Assistant Principal & teacher of K Beluga), Ms Lilias MacDonald (music specialist) and Ms Jihye Kim (part-time School Administration Officer) - who are embarking on various adventures in 2023.

Thank you so much to all the people who have embraced the Balmain Public School family and made their own unique contributions to the school, making it the incredible place that it is.

It is your time to spread your wings and fly! We will miss you all and wish you all the best for the future...fare thee well!

It takes a village...

The school is so grateful to each and every individual who has assisted us along the way in 2022! Our village is vast and our needs are varied - uniform & 2nd Chance stalls, uniform distributors, parent/carer classroom helpers, Scripture & Ethics teachers, volunteers for a variety of carnivals & P&C events, professional stopwatch handlers, bakers, BBQ specialists, grant writers, choral masters, Year 6 Graduation committee, Year Book coordinators & distributors, furniture removalists, lost property washers and sorters, collaborative artworks assistants, art gallery curators, tea towel distributors, donations and sponsorship acquirers, donation boxes for the Giving Assembly, donators of gifts, funds and kind...the list is endless! A special THANK YOU goes to our P&C executive team, for their incredible energy and passion in supporting all our students and wonderful school! Thank you again to everyone!

Thanks so much for the fabulous Year 6 Gift to the school!

We will think of you always, as the lectern is used...thank you!

Spotlight on...

5/6 Rock Lobster!!!!

5/6 Rock Lobster have absolutely rocked this last week of school! In mathematics we have been creating our own 'math passion projects', students were to pick an area of the curriculum that they wanted to learn more about and were to design their own math investigation. Students explored sub-strands of and topic areas including algebra, division, properties of triangles, cartesian planes and statistics/probability. With this came authentic student voice and choice within their learning.

Some of the highlights were:

Alex B & Ryan Z - What is the projectory of a football to reach the top corner of a goal?

Ella W, Ada C, Sophie B, Annita Z - How can we use statistics and data to explore what each students' favourite subject is?

Archer L, Rupert H, Owen T, Ethan S, Kieran Y - What would the mass diameter and properties of a Poke ball from Pokémon be?

Nathan R, Teo X, Max S - how can we create an interactive board game to explore cartesian planes?

Lester W, Tristan Y - Can chance & data be used to represent algebra? Could poetry?

Harper K, Lauren F, Marium S - Can we create a musical piece and or rap to teach basic algebra?

Ashton G - A game show on timelines and recording of events!

Nikki A, Emily G, Leah L - how could change and probability be transformed into a live puppet show?

From all of our students - we wish everyone a happy, safe and relaxing holiday break!
