Jamberoo Public School Newsletter

Term 4 Week 6 Newsletter 2022

Acknowledgement of Country

From the Principal

Dear Jamberoo Public School Community,

Throughout this week, the school has very much enjoyed having our future Kindergarten students come up and visit us. The preschool children joined our students for lunch each day and participated in our fun lunch time activities. The visits provided our future enrolments the opportunity to orientate themselves with the school and develop relationships with our current students. We look forward to seeing our 2023 Kindergarten enrolments back at ‘big school’ next year.

Next week the school is excited about the captains’ speeches which will be presented in the school hall on Thursday 24th November at 12pm. Families are more than welcome to attend.

House captain and vice-captain meetings will be conducted on Friday 25th November for interested students.

A huge congratulations goes to the champion debating team consisting of Tessa, Nyasa, Reece, Mahala and Amy. The Jamberoo school community is extremely proud of your tremendous achievements in 2022! Also, a massive thank you to Mrs Behl-Shanks (Debating Super Coach) for the time and effort you have put into the debating team this year and every year.

Fun Day

A decision regarding Fun Day for 2022 has been made. We are excited to announce that this year the awesome students of Jamberoo will be heading off to Hoyts at Warrawong to enjoy a movie on Thursday 15th December.

Students in Kindergarten to Year 2 will be watching Lyle Lyle Crocodile.

The students in Years 3 to 6 will be watching Blueback.

Fun Day will be a well-deserved reward for our wonderful students who have worked so hard throughout 2022. The cost of the day is ‘free’. Transport and movie ticket will be covered. The students will just need to bring their lunch, recess and drink with them. Upon returning to school, a free sausage sizzle, drink and ice block will be provided for the students.

A permission note for parents/carers has now been enabled home on Operoo. Please complete the permission form at your earliest convenience so we have a clear indication of the number of students who will be attending Fun Day.

Communication Survey

The school is proactive in requesting feedback from our school community regarding all aspects of school life at Jamberoo Public School. This term, we will be actively seeking the school community’s opinions in these key areas:

·         What is the school doing well and where can we improve?

·         Communication

·         Reporting student achievement.

In an effort to gauge the effectiveness of Jamberoo Public School's level of communication with parents/guardians - we need you to please complete the following survey. All feedback provided will be evaluated and analysed and will assist in future whole school planning. Please find a link below to the second survey of the term – Jamberoo Public School Communication Survey 2022:

It would be greatly appreciated if responses could be provided on or before close of business on Friday 25th November. Thank you everyone in advance for taking the time to share your thoughts on the school’s communication systems.

Student Enrolments 2023

If you, or anyone else you know, is planning to enrol children at Jamberoo Public School in 2023 it is vital that you contact the school as soon as possible to confirm the enrolment(s). Alternatively, if you know that in 2023 you will be relocating from Jamberoo and your child/children will not be enrolling at the school it is very important that you make this known to us, so we have an accurate picture of student numbers for next year. Your cooperation and communication in this matter is very much appreciated.

Presentation Day

A reminder that our annual Presentation Day will be on Friday 9th December in our school hall. The ceremony will commence at 9:30am and will conclude at approximately 11:30am. All parents and families are welcome.

Newsletter Calendar

Please take the time to read over the Term Four calendar in today's newsletter. There are many important and exciting events coming up this term. At this stage, there are still some end of year activities that have not been confirmed. Keep a look out for the events to be added to the calendar in the near future.

Jamberoo Public School’s Champion Debating Team

Jamberoo Debaters Soar at State

At Jamberoo we strive to be ‘a small school making a big difference’ and never were these words more truly reflected than through our recent debating efforts. In case you have managed to miss the accolades and running commentary coming to you on Dojo posts, Jamberoo PS recently won the Illawarra South East Premiers Debating Challenge after an 8 debate success run. This meant we were in the top 10 teams of the 878 Stage 3 debating teams taking part in this year’s Premier Debating Challenge! Evidently our student population strives for quality over quantity.

As a result of our success at the regional level, Nyasa, Reece, Amy, Mahala, Tessa and I headed up to Stanwell Tops to face the best of the best in a gruelling 2 days of debating. Yes, we may have broken up our heavy thinking by tackling ‘Goliath’ the highest swing in the Southern Hemisphere, smashing the other teams on the go-kart track (both literally and metaphorically) and learning the finer art of ‘Ga-Ga ball’ but don’t be mistaken, these kids worked HARD.

At the end of the closest competition that the State Championship has known, we managed to finish up in equal 3rd place with 5 other teams, all of which managed to win two of their four debates, behind the 2 teams who had 3 wins each. Unfortunately, Jamberoo narrowly missed out on progressing to the semi-finals on an adjudicator count back of ‘head to heads wins’. Didn’t stop the Jamberoo squad from grinning ear to ear with pride as they showcased their talents in their debates that went from strength to strength.

Congratulations to the fierce and fabulous five, who not only were wonderful ambassadors for our school and region but were also terrific kids to hang out with.

From the mouths of our debaters –

Nyasa – I liked the opportunity that we had to come here and sleep in bunks and the privilege of going against the hardest teams in the state. We had won every debate we had but here we lost which made us feel bad to lose yet good to be home.

Mahala – I enjoyed meeting new people when doing camp activities like the giant swing and go-kart racing. I felt really proud that I have gotten this far in debating this year and could do it with my friends.

Amy – I most liked that we have lots of debating memories. I was proud of all of our debates but especially the last one because it was one of our team’s best performances. I also loved the giant swing it was so high and a big thrill.

Tessa – I am so proud of our team because we came to state and improved with every debate. Even when we felt nervous during debating or the giant swing challenges we persevered and got through it together.

Reece – I was proud of winning against the Orange Superstars as second speaker for the first time.
