Principals Report

Dear parents,

Storm Damage

I hope you have all managed to clean up after the recent storm and your properties have not sustained too much damage.  We had a few trees down and our boundary fence on the northern side of the school blew down.  Most of this has been made safe or is booked in to be fixed in the coming weeks.

Reports

Our teachers are putting the final touches on the Semester One reports this week, and they will be distributed next Thursday, the 24th of June.

The report format has changed slightly this semester.  Where in the past your child’s report would contain a lengthy written comment, we are representing this same information with several statements that break down the skills taught in English and Mathematics.  Your child’s proficiency in these skills will be indicated with a five-point scale checkbox as well as an overall mark which is represented by the dots most parents will know from previous reports.  Teachers have continued to include a written comment on your child personal and social development.

We have planned our parent teacher meetings for next term in the week beginning 9th to the 13th of August.  This will be another opportunity to discuss your child’s progress at school.  If you require additional time to meet your child’s teacher please reach out to them in person or via email, the staff email addresses can be found here.  Details about the parent teacher meetings will be provided in term three.

Winter Solstice

We have decided to postpone the winter solstice event scheduled for this Friday night until Friday the 23rd of July.  The uncertainty of the COVID restrictions have made it difficult to plan and as it currently stands, we are not able to run the event due to the restrictions.

QR Codes

We have set up a QR code for the school. If you are coming into the school building to sign your children in late or out early, or to meet with teachers, we ask you to use this QR code. If you are visiting the school for an extended time, for example to help at Middle Gully or in the classrooms, we ask you to sign in using the visitors book.

Enrolments and students leaving in 2021

We are now accepting new enrolments for Foundation students in 2022. If you have a child or know someone with a child that is wanting to enrol at Macedon Primary next year, please return your forms to the office. A link to the form is available here 2022 Enrolment Form

Alternatively, if you child is leaving Macedon Primary at the end of this year (not including year 6 students), can you please let us know, so we can start planning for next year.

Spare Clothes

With the wet weather now upon us, please make sure your children have spare clothes in their bag. We have a small amount of clothing in the sick bay, however if your child gets wet, we cannot always fully re-clothe them. A spare pair of socks is highly recommended.

Lunch Orders

As you know we offer a lunch order service on a Friday through Red Door Cafe. Over the last few weeks we have seen a rise in the amount of children either missing items from their lunch orders or not receiving their lunches, this creates stress for the children and more work for the office staff.  If you could please read the following tips to make sure the lunch order process is as streamlined as possible:

- Please clearly mark your child's name and class on the lunch order bag.

- Please have correct change.

- If you have a large amount of coins, please make sure they are secure in the bag.

- If you are dropping in the lunch order directly at Red Door, please make sure you have told them the correct class of the child.

- Please make sure you are ordering from the correct menu

Recent storm activity

The storm on Wednesday night that hit the Macedon Ranges caused major power outrages and damage due to felled trees. The school escaped serious damage, however we did have power out for most of Thursday and the alarm system was triggered. The students showed remarkable resilience and were well behaved during the uphevel. Please find below some photos of the Foundation and grade one students who carried on with their art class in the limited daylight.

The Power Outage

On Thursday when I awoke, I walked out of my bedroom and looked outside. You wouldn’t believe what was there….it was a tree that had fallen down on my wet, thick, green grass. It was soooo windy! I walked back inside my bedroom to see if the power was back on. Guess what? When I turned on the lights it was still dark. I was very disappointed.

When I was in the car and my Mum was driving me to school there was a big tree lying on the road, so my Mum had to go the other way.

When I got to school, I saw a huge tree close to the JCB. I kept walking and when I got inside there was a loud siren, so everyone in the building had to go outside. Then the siren turned off, so we went back inside. Then the siren turned on again. Repeat, repeat, repeat, repeat!

Later that day 4CS (my class) and 3/4MS (Mr Smith’s) were in the portables. Raven, Niamh and I were talking about the storm, then we all got picked up early by our parents. When I got home, I ate food and the power turned back on, so I watched my favourite TV show Gilmore Girls.

Storm Hits Macedon PS

With the massive winds and rain storms during early June, Macedon district got pummelled like other towns in the area. We just got over a week's lockdown and Macedon Primary Students were faced with some devastation at our school.

After the storms and rain Macedon Primary lost a few trees. Branches were everywhere, one of the major trees was a massive tree nearly fell onto our John Curtin Building and water tank and luckily nobody got injured or hurt.  We would like to thank all the SES and volunteers who have been helping our community.
