Principal`s Report

Staffing Update

Recently Wyong Public School had a merit selection position available and open to all candidates across NSW and beyond. The process has now been completed.

I am pleased to announce that following a merit selection process Mrs Brechney has been permanently appointed to Wyong Public School. Mrs Brechney has been a temporary teacher here in a variety of roles since 2013.

Congratulations to Mrs Brechney and we wish her all the very best for her teaching career.

On behalf of the panel I thank Jacqui Boyd who represented the P&C, Mrs Bundy who represented the AECG and Mrs Whitehouse who represented the staff on the teacher panel for their time and professionalism.

Tuggerah / Wyong Public Schools Gala Day

Tomorrow our stage 3 children will be at Baker Park playing a variety of sports in a Gala Day with Tuggerah PS and several other local schools. This is a wonderful initiative by both schools and we thank the staff of stage 3 and also Tuggerah for their organisation and time in organising such events.

The children will participate in a range of sports over the day and we hope they all enjoy the event and make some new friends along the way.

School Swimming and Water Safety Program

Thank you for the response to  the School Swimming and Water Safety Program. which begins in a few weeks time. This is a wonderful opportunity for the children to learn how to swim and also learn some very important safety skills.

The numbers are full and we cannot take anymore children, and we also have a reserve list.

Other School News

Central Coast Choral Festival

On Thursday 24th October, 2019 the Wyong Public School Key Choir joined schools from around the Central Coast to perform in the Central Coast Choral Festival. The festival was a culmination of a year of rehearsals and hard work by our dedicated choir. Our school was proud that we had three soloists at the festival. Hugo in 6W performed Electricity from Billy Elliot, Violet in 6W performed the solo in This is Me and Eva in 6F performed a stirring solo in Wildlife Warrior by Paul Jarman. It was wonderful to see the way our choir supported each other and became inspired by what they could achieve. Congratulations, Key Choir, we are very proud of your achievements!!

P&C News

At the end of last term the P&C organised their major fundraiser for the year, Obstacool! The day was a great success with the students having a lot of fun and also raising an incredible sum of over $4000 for the school! The staff are now busy working on wish-lists for the P&C, to spend some of their hard earned funds around the school. A huge thank you to Alisha and Jacqui for all their incredible hard work organising this massive event. WPS is so fortunate to have such dedicated parents giving up their time to support the school.

The P&C have organised a Christmas Shopping Night Fundraiser to be held at Casey's Toys Tuggerah next Wednesday 13th November from 6.00-8.00pm (see advert for details).

Coming up....the P&C's last fundraising event for the year....a 'Christmas Raffle'! Raffle tickets will soon be sent home and due back by 13th December. Any prize donations are most welcome and the raffle will be drawn on 16th December! More details to follow.....

5C Obstacool Fundraiser

Last week 5C enjoyed their pizza party for raising over $1000 in the Obstacool fundraiser. They invited Jasmine McNair (6W) who raised the highest amount across the school. Pizza, garlic bread, ice cream and juice. What an awesome way to finish a Friday!

OC Art House Visit

Last week our Opportunity classes visited the Arthouse to watch a comedy show featuring the comedy duo The Listies. We were rolling around in laughter at the many antics these two shared including a similarity to our very own Liam.

NRMA Science & Road Safety Program

On Monday the students took turns visiting the NRMA Science & Road Safety Show to learn about crossing roads safely, wearing seat belts correctly, helmet safety and much more. Thanks to Danny for making everyone laugh and handing out lots of tips to keep ourselves safe

Children's University Graduation

On Tuesday the 5th of November, I had the pleasure of attending the Children’s University Graduation at the university in Callaghan.

This year we had over 60 children involved in the program and 43 of these students graduated on Tuesday night. Throughout the year, these students recorded their learning experiences and activities that occur outside the classroom.

The students had the opportunity to walk across the big stage and receive their award in front of their families. Afterwards, the celebration continued and we enjoyed dinner, a disco and a photo booth.

A big thank you to the families that attended and well done to the students for representing Wyong exceptionally well.

Dress Like A Farmer Day

After investigating the devastating effects of the drought in rural NSW, 4C organised a fundraising day to support the Buy A Bale aid organisation. Many students and staff got involved in the dress-up fun to help raise much-needed funds for our rural farmers doing it tough. $682 was raised which will be used to buy hay bales and water deliveries.

Stage 3 Mini Fete

Stage 3 will be holding their annual mini fete on Thursday, 21st November. There will be a variety of stalls available, including food stalls.  Tokens will be on sale outside the canteen area from Monday, 11th - Friday, 15th November from 8.30am to 9.00am only. There will be more tokens available to be purchased on fete day.

There is no higher priority than protecting our children and NSW Police Legacy continues their commitment to child safety. The greatest tool available to combat youth vulnerability is through knowledge. This handbook is for every family and includes everything we need as a community to protect our most valuable and vulnerable resource – our children. The ‘Child Safety Handbook’ was officially launched in 2011 at Government House. A much needed and vital guide to assist children,

parents and teachers, the Handbook covers the entire extent of potential hazards that young children face. The Handbook offers advice and facts on everyday activities, cyber safety, bullying, crossing roads etc. to the more unusual incidents such as such as floods and fires and even goes into details on the effects of smoking, caffeine and drugs.
