School Counsellor Parent Information Session
Our School Counsellor Information Session will be held tomorrow afternoon, Wednesday 14th September from 2pm-3pm. Mel Bolton will be available to answer any questions parents might have about the role of the school counsellor or supports that you feel the community might need.
Tell Them From Me Survey
The Partners in Learning parent survey is part of the Tell Them From Me suite of surveys on student engagement and well-being. The parent survey helps to clarify and strengthen the important relationship between parents and school. Participation in the parent survey is optional. We encourage everyone to complete the survey to build a robust dataset.
The parent surveys provide school principals with parents' perspectives on their school as well as their child's learning at home. The survey asks parents their views on a range of areas to help build an accurate and timely picture that schools can use for practical improvements including; communication between parents and staff, activities and practices at home, and parents views on the school's support of learning and positive behaviour .
The survey is anonymous and can be used either as a one-off survey or at regular intervals over time, with the ability to identify trends within schools and better inform school priorities. The survey is held once a year commencing in Term 3 and is run at the same time as the teacher survey and the student survey. The survey is available in multiple languages and is conducted entirely online on computers, tablets or smartphones during a specific survey window. The survey takes around 15 minutes to complete. Parents with more than one child at the school may choose to complete the survey more than once, if they feel that their children’s experiences differ.
The parent survey asks parents/carers a range of questions related to the following drivers of student outcomes:- parents feel welcome
- parents are informed
- parents support learning at home
- parents' participation at school
- school supports positive behaviour
- safety
- inclusion
- school supports learning.

I will receive Kangaroo Valley Public School's data within three business days of closing the survey. When results are available, I will receive a summary report of the school’s results and access to online tools to help analyse and understand the data, including interactive charts and trend reports. Schools’ results can be compared against state-wide averages.
The survey window is now open and runs until Friday 4 November (Week 4, Term 4).
Check-in Assessment
Check-in assessments are online assessment for students in Years 3 to 9. They are mapped to the NSW Syllabuses and National Literacy and Numeracy Learning Progressions. There are three assessments:
- Reading
- Numeracy
- Writing (Year 6 only)
Each assessment is designed to be quick and easy to administer, consisting of between 40 to 50 multiple choice questions.
Schools can access feedback soon after the completion of the assessment. Student assessment feedback from the Check-in assessments, including links to teaching strategies will be available for teachers. Student assessment information is also mapped against the National Literacy and Numeracy Learning Progressions and can be accessed by teachers to inform teaching and learning.
The assessment can supplement existing school practices to identify how students are performing in literacy and numeracy and to help teachers tailor their teaching more specifically to student needs.

Kangaroo Valley Folk Festival
Each year Kangaroo Valley Public School have the opportunity to perform at the Folk Festival. This year Mrs Gripper and Mrs Kat Bevis will be supporting students to perform songs we have been learning at school. We will be learning songs to perform as a whole school, as well as a song from the KV Songbirds (School Choir).
After these performances, we would like to showcase the musical talents of our KVPS students to fill our dedicated school time slot on the main stage between 10.30 and 11am. Students should register their interest with Mrs Gripper and begin practicing. Mrs Gripper has already held the auditions to select students who are dedicated to showcasing their musical talents during the school time slot on the day. Please keep rehearsing at home.
Any interested students can still perform as part of the 'Open Mic' festival event which will be separate to our school time slot. Any student who attends to perform can stay until 12pm with their parents to watch Mic Conway to perform on the main stage. Students under 12 years of age are free! KVPS Parents will need to purchase tickets if you are staying after midday.
