TOKSAVE - Lihir International School

Term 2, Week 4, 2020

From the Principal

Today we feature some pics of parents and carers assisting their children learning at home. The success of the LIS remote  teaching is largely dependent on the cooperation of all parents and carers. Although an unfamiliar and difficult endeavour, learning is happening and LIS children are engaged. I encourage all our parents and carers to persist, and contact your child's teacher for support where needed.

It is vitally important that teachers have regular contact with students in their classes - whether it is through Google Classrooms, WhatsApp, Skype, text messaging, email or phone calls. Parents and carers assistance in facilitating this is appreciated. Students in high school are all able to contact their teacher through one of the above modes, and are expected to make some contact daily.

Please note that although some PNG schools opened for a trial period  it is expected that LIS will remain closed for the duration of Term 2, unless otherwise directed by Newcrest management.

Please do not forget to join our assembly at 9am tomorrow. Click on the Meet link in the LIS Assembly classroom in Google Classroom and remember to mute your microphone.

Please contact myself or your child's teachers if you have any queries or concerns regarding your child's education at LIS.

Term 2 Student Council Activities

Students are invited to enter into a Covid 19 mask making competition. Let your imagination go and design and create a mask to reflect your understanding of the pandemic. Send a photo of yourself wearing your mask to your class teacher before the end of Week 8, Friday June 5. Maybe you could include a couple of shots of your mask taken from different angles.

Students in Prep to Year 2 may choose to enter a colour in competition instead. Templates may be collected from school when you collect your at home learning pack for Weeks 5 to 9. You have 4 pictures to choose from.

SRC are also holding a Pyjama Day on Friday May 29. You are invited to attend your classes in your pyjamas on that day. No gold coin required to participate, but beware a fine if you don’t.

From the Deputy Principal

I would also like to say well done to all parents and carers for their support with student learning. Remember that sometimes learning may be done differently to when you were at school and that it is okay to explain that to your child.

If you are unsure of a concept or activity, you could say, "Let's find out about that together."  Your child's teacher will be happy to help as needed.

As we tell our students at school often, "We are life-long learners!" This experience of teaching remotely and learning at home reminds us of that every day.

I hope everyone has a great weekend.
