Term 1, Week 8 Newsletter

From the Leadership Team

At our Pupil Free Day on Friday 24th March, staff will be working with members of our Student Support Services Team within the department on differentiation of learning, learning support strategies, and development of individualised learning programs.  Time will also be spent looking at curriculum and assessment processes across the school.  Thank you for your support!

Over the last two weeks, our Sports Day Captains have been working with teachers to prepare for Sports Day.  Practice for the whole school health hustle and the all-important house chants have begun, and run offs for sprints are taking place.  Excitement is building as we work towards our Sports Day on Thursday April 6th.   More information will be distributed over the coming weeks.

On Tuesday 21st March, we celebrated Harmony Day at school.  Classes worked together to celebrate diversity and participate in learning activities reflective of different cultures and fitting with the theme ‘Everyone Belongs’.  It was lovely to see many students and teachers dressed in orange and celebrating together.

Tuesday 21st March also saw Governing Council meet for the first time.  The Sub Committees of the Governing Council have been meeting in the past few weeks and were able to share what they have been up to.  The ICT Committee have taken the task of reviewing our current BYOD Policy, and there will be an opportunity for feedback from families as the process continues.  The Sports Committee have met and are also looking for volunteers who may like to support their children in coaching or managing a sports team.  Please contact the office if you are interested.

NAPLAN testing has been held over the last two weeks, and the students and staff have worked together to make this as smooth a process as possible. This year there will be a change in the way the NAPLAN results are reported to families.  Results will be available much earlier than in previous years (date still to be confirmed) and will be reported on using four levels of achievement known as the proficiency standards.: Exceeding; Strong; Developing; Needs Additional Support.

Teachers are looking forward to parent-teacher interviews next week.  I encourage you to take this opportunity to meet with your class teachers to discuss your child’s learning.  If you missed out on making a time using the link sent home, please contact your child’s teacher via See-Saw to negotiate a time.

Garden Club News

Our Garden Club crew had a busy time last week. New marigolds were planted in the pots near the entrance to the Primary building. Our fruit and vegetable beds were watered. It’s great to see how well the corn is growing and we found some marigold and carrots beginning to sprout. We also did some sweeping and tidying up around the area near the garden beds. Well done to Madaline J5, James J3, Kit P4, Sahar P8 and Alice P7 for your hard work

Edward - P4 - I had the cocktail spring rolls. They were good and tasty.

Ziyi - P3 - I had the beef bolognaise. I really enjoyed the pasta.

Samaveer - P12 - I ordered the butter chicken. It tasted really good. I would order it again.
