Term 3 - Week 10 (23 September 2022)

Dear St Mary's School Community

Gospel: Luke: 16: 19-31

In Sunday’s Gospel, Jesus tells the parable of the rich man and the poor man, named Lazarus.  The rich man had a hardened heart.  He didn’t care about Lazarus or his suffering.  When he died his heart of stone could not accept God’s mercy and so he ended up in hell.  Meanwhile Lazarus, who was open to God’s mercy ended up in heaven.

Emmett’s Memorial

Thank you to those families that were able to join us for Emmett’s Memorial on Monday morning.  The Tayler family was grateful for the care and support we have shown them but in particular for the many prayers that we have said, especially for Emmett.  I was very proud of the reverence that the students displayed at the memorial.  Thank you to Fr Andrew and to the Year Five students (Emmett’s classmates) who led the liturgy so maturely.  We have planted two trees in the nature playground and blessed plaque will be placed on the rocks, in remembrance of Emmett.

Colour Run

The Colour Run was run in perfect conditions and was a fantastic success. All the students and staff thoroughly enjoyed themselves and were very colourful by the time they had completed the event. Thank you to our wonderful P&F for providing the sausage sizzle for lunch and for organising, setting up and helping out with the colour run. It was great to see so many volunteers getting involved including local Police and Ambulance Officers. What a fun way to finish off the  term.

Assessment Folders

Assessment folders went home with students this afternoon.  Please check your child’s bag for it and fill in the feedback sheet ready to be returned at the start of Term Four.

Term Four

WOW – I can’t believe I am referring to Term Four already!  This year has simply flown by!  We return back to school on Monday, 10 October for Pre-Kindy and Pre-primary to Year Six (Kindy returns on Tuesday, 11 October).  All students are to be in their summer uniform.  Please ensure that your child is wearing the correct shoes – they are to be entirely black.  Due to School Photos on Thursday, 13 October, all students in Year One to Six are to wear their sports uniform on Monday, 10 October.  (Pre-primary will still have PE on Thursday and they will be in their sports uniform regardless.)

Thank You

As we come to the end of another term, thank you to everyone who has in some way (small or large) contributed to the success of this term, especially to the parent community for their assistance and support, to the amazing staff who regularly go above and beyond in their roles and of course to the students who make it such a joy and reward to come to school every day.  I wish everyone a wonderful holiday – please relax, enjoy and do the things that recharge your energy.  Be safe and travel safe and I look forward to seeing everyone in two weeks’ time!

God Bless and have a lovely weekend with your families,

Ms Adriana Coniglio

Principal

Class News

Year Six Class News

The Year Six class has had a very busy end to Term Three with athletics carnivals, writing articles for their Yearbook and preparing to go on camp. We have also welcomed Amelia to our class.

In Literacy we have been focusing on writing ballads and limericks and have produced some very entertaining finished products. Here is an example of our fabulous work;

I woke up bright and early

My face gleamed with joy

It was my 10th birthday

I hope I get a toy

I ran out of my room

Expecting birthday wishes

Not knowing what was coming

Instead, I had to do the dishes

A Dog Called Ben

There once was a dog called Ben,

He lived in a rusty old den,

He wasn’t that normal,

But he was extremely formal

And that was the dog called Ben.

Interschool Athletics Carnival

On the 15th September our Interschool athletics squad competed against Merredin College in the Interschool Athletics Carnival. It was a hard-fought day of running, team games, jumps and throws. Congratulations to all the competitors who tried their very best, showing fantastic determination and sportsmanship, resulting in St Mary’s being awarded the overall winners 53 points ahead of Merredin college.

Thank you to the parent helpers for your assistance on the day, to the staff for their hard work in preparing the students, and to Merredin College for hosting the event.
