Term 2 Week 4

WE'RE A SECOND STEP SCHOOL

PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE

This term staff will be implementing the Second Step program for all classes. Second Step is a social-emotional learning program that teaches various social and emotional skills such as emotion recognition and management, empathy, problem solving, bullying prevention, and goal-setting. This month, for Second Step our schoolwide theme is our school Is a welcoming place where every student feels like he or she belongs. In our morning announcements and school assembly, we’ll be reminding students to welcome others and act and speak in safe, respectful, and responsible ways. In addition we’ll be reminding students of our PBL expectations of Respect, Responsibility and Co-operation.  We ask that you please support your child at home in welcoming others and acting and speaking in safe, respectful, and responsible ways. Class teachers may also send home revision for the lessons taught each week. Please take the time to discuss these with your child.

We look forward to the success this program will bring to our students and the wider school community as we work together to develop the social and emotional skills of all students. Your support of this wellbeing initiative in the home environment is greatly appreciated.

2022 NSW PREMIER'S READING CHALLENGE

The NSW Premier's Reading Challenge (PRC) is an initiative of the NSW State government. It aims to encourage in students a love of reading for leisure and pleasure and to enable them to experience quality literature. It is not a competition but a challenge to each student - to read, to read more and to read more widely.

Did you know that students in Years 3-6 are given the opportunity to read a book of their choice during free reading time at school? When finished reading their book students are asked to add it to their Premier’s Reading Challenge Reading log. We would like to see free reading extended to the home. Please encourage your children to borrow books from the school library to read at home and to then they can add them to their PRC reading logs.

In order to complete the Challenge, students must read the following number of books based on their Challenge Level:

BEEF WEEK - WHS DAY AT THE FARM

On Monday, 16th May, students from Year 6 travelled to Wingham High School to participate in the ‘Day at The Farm’ in conjunction with Wingham Beef Week. Miss Cattell attended the day with the students. They learnt about animal management, farm machinery and enjoyed being able to handle some of the animals. A big thankyou to the teachers and students at Wingham High School for making the day a fantastic learning experience for the Year 6 students.
